For those that have been using it… thoughts, wants, wishes….

UI
  • Make the grid always viewable
    • Tuck the preset/favorites window under the grid not over it.
  • Put the list of choosable types for the block in the left column under the picture of the active type. Would make it easier to cycle types rather than clicking the model drop down or the graphic.
  • Add the pictures for comps/modulations like the amps and drives.
Controls
  • Give us ducking/diffusion controls (if not the full advance tab) for the delays.
Content
  • Tape delay
  • Ambient reverb of some sort (Stratocumulus)
  • A couple 412 dynacabs, V30 and GB variants

An ICONS: Delay plugin with all features of the delay block is under serious consideration. Meanwhile, just stack 3rd party plugins or use the excellent delay options currently in ICONS.

Take this for what it’s worth, (nothing) but I think anyone buying FAS plugins is going to have a level of expectation in terms of the included effects. What’s there is great, but it feels very light by FAS standards, fully noting that no block is going to include all block types as those would be in the dedicated Delay, Reverb, Modulation offerings. I think a tape delay would be a fundamental delay to include, as would some sort of dedicated ambient verb, particularly on a fender based plugin where people are going to reach for those sorts of effects more often then on say a Marshall/Mesa plug where we would just need an 808/SD1, plate reverb and some nasty riffs. ;)

Side note, are these going to be exclusively siloed plugins, or will there be a shell/wrapper plug where we can stack multiple Icon amps/effects/cabs into one place? (IE mix and match what we’ve bought)

Vibrolux Brownface in Vol 3
Plexi Delay
An additional Compressor Block
Gate/Expander
Rotary

All in all - very impressed with the product! But - wishlist :)

There's already a FAS Reverb plugin...
I think its been left in the dark ages (so to speak), though.

I believe they're going to give it an overhaul and re-launch it. Not sure will the name change. Time will tell.

For certain: they may run my card immediately for Delay and new-form Reverb. :)

edit: And any other FX/Studio Tools packs planned.

"We're also planning to re-issue an updated version of FAS-FX Reverb."

A mix of wishes and (possible) bugs here:

I'd love to have toggle buttons for going through amp models. Im just firing up an old track and with so many Fender amps available, it's hard to know what is going to work. To flip from one amp to the next, you have to click a few times and move the mouse around. Arrows would make this way faster. You wouldn't want to do this on an AxeFX where scrolling through amps can go through TOTALLY different amp types. Here they are more curated and its quite feasible that any of them could work on a given track.

I'd also love on the cab block to be able to hold a modifier to drag the mic position more granularly. It would also be good to be able to click and drag the text boxes for position as well as the actual position graphic. It's currently quite hard to accurately adjust distance without moving position. If you can drag the text boxes, it ensures you only move the intended axis.

I'd like to see a bit more exposed to the user as far as phase, timing and MPT. Blending doesn't feel particularly realistic to me. It all feels very convenient and dumbed down but at the expense of losing a more realistic workflow. To hear what I mean, try blending mics together and move the position around, both in distance and horizontally. I get why it is the way it is, but it does not feel or sound natural to me. Many sounds are simply not achievable.

It would be great to be able to lock parameters and blocks in place via right clicking. Both for auditioning presets, and also just when dialling things in.

I think there may be a with the Room feature on the cab block. When on a mono instance, blending it in sounds very comb filtery. If you do the same on a stereo track and pan both channels to mono. It would be great to have a mono option for this where it's only processing a single channel for the room mic, rather than doing L and R and summing them.

When duplicating the plugin to another instance, the "do not show this screen at startup" setting is being ignored and it's showing every time. There's also no way within the plugin to save the default window size as default (this can be done with a DAW factory setting but it would be great if this was handled by the plugin too, then it applies across DAW's and standalone).

The tuner feels janky graphically. I'd love to have the strobe mode, but also for the ballistics to be smoother. Submission Audio LockOn does a really solid job at displaying strobe style and needle type tuning in the same view.

The delays are too basic. Not just with the models available, but also with the parameters themselves. There are also too few reverb types. It needs some curveball options, not just meat and potato spring/room/hall. IMO the parameters are also too dumbed down for the reverbs.

There should be more graphics and knob styles across all the different block types. This goes for cabs and mics too.

Im on the latest Pro Tools AAX on Mac Sequoia.

Good feedback. I think for the cab block we should incorporate the "Auto-Align On/Off" like in the Axe-Fx.

That would be great. I'd be curious if there is an option to turn off interpolation too - you'd know whether there's any real benefit here, but given that you've said the speakers are captured in a lot of detail, I'd be quite happy to just use things as close to as they are captured as possible.

I believe Amplitube has an option that can snap to the nearest position. As far as Im aware, doing MPT, normalisation, and blending multiple IR's for each position can deviate quite a lot from the source.

While I'm at it - I quite like using filters to rotate the phase of the low end prior to summing multiple mics together. IMO a polarity button and a basic Neve style EQ (with filter) would be awesome on each mic channel, so you can shape a 121 before summing with a 57. It's a workflow from the analog domain that most cab engines seem to overlook.

DynaCabs are not MPT.
