I owned an original first edition TS (which I sold stupidly enough) AND a Maxon. I’m not saying that they are identical, the Maxon indeed has less mids, but that alone doesn’t make it transparent. There’s also the low cut and more. It’s a nice OD though.

The 808 reference pedal is an Ibanez, not a Maxon. The Maxon may indeed sound different. I don't know, I don't have one.

The schematics are almost identical. They should sound very close.

I've heard reports that some of the Maxons had a different resistor in series with the Drive pot. This would reduce the amount of gain and the mid hump when the control is turned all the way down. It's also a popular mod to reduce that resistor value for just this reason.
 
The tone pot taper makes a big difference in the 808 circuit too. It uses a modified linear taper pot, so the response of the tone circuit can be quite different with different pot tapers. That was always an irritating part about building TS clones.

Just roll back to Fw 30.00 if I had a big gig I would just go to my back up FW no big deal.

Do you mean the Maxoff model is based on schematics only?
