FW 31 Midrange only

Coming from FW 28.3
FW30.1 everything is too midrange and I can’t seem to defeat it. It’s possible that it might sound better in a live mix but in my room… I do like vintage 70-80’s sounds.
What do others think?
 
You’ve got something weird going on that we couldn’t even begin to diagnose on where the issue is, but I’m pretty sure it’s not the modeling itself.
 
I have struggled with the mid range on FW31, too. Ive got it close now after fiddling with it for week.

Do you use Drives before the amp block?

Not sure what to make of it. Went to FW 28.3 and all sounds perfect. I’ve tried everything eq in every block... Made new presets from scratch and still lows & highs
gone.

Generally yes. After fiddling for a week, are you satisfied it’s an improvement?
I’m very happy with FW 28.3 but usually impressed with major FW updates!
 
FWIW, I had to re-eq a lot of my presets after the FW upgrade. I experienced the same "mid hump" as well even though most say nothing sounded different and "only better". I'm still running 9.03 on my FM9 due to the changes in that FW. I'm of the mindset "if it sounds good, it ain't broken, don't fix it" most of the time with the FW upgrades. especially if there is a drastic tone change. Also, Im pretty sure the guys from Metallica and the rest don't rush out and upgrade their FW's every time a new one is released. If you have 28.3 kicking ass for you, keep it and keep rocking!! Who knows, by FW 35 it may sound different again and back to what is more pleasing to your (and my) ears. I have experienced this through many years of upgrades in the Fractalverse.
 
I think I’m in the minority in that I couldn’t care less if the amp models sound authentic. I tweak to “my” tone. So most every firmware update is a change to the worse for me. Can’t remember an update that was an improvement right from the start. It’s always a process to get back to my tone. However, I always end up at a better place.

Is 31 better? Not yet, but it will be.

I’m a gain whore and use drives extensively. Waiting patiently for 31.01

Edit; I’ve had to add bass and change the balance of highs/mids so far

I updated from FW29. I had been trying to tame the low and high end on some of my presets for a while. This update resolved a lot of that for me right out of the gate.
