🔥Introducing the new AM4 Amp Modeler

I am disappointed that Fractal and others have not done what Kemper did with the Kemper Player. In that you start off with a basic unit at a cheaper price that can nevertheless play the same presets as the flagship models. Be it that you start off with less effects and features that are in the flagship models. However you have the ability to upgrade your unit in stages which to many people makes the unit a more affordable option which in time will grow up to on par with it's bigger brothers.

I prefer this model and I believe that it is the way to go as it introduces people to an ecosystem that they were previously shut out of due to cost. Furthermore it is harder for them to make a case to their other half to spend 2k in one go. While buying a cheaper unit and then upgrading it would fly under the radar and probable save them from a potential divorce. Also the fact that this new unit is not able to play FM3 presets means that it is a non starter for me.
I disagree, unlocking hardware with software is ridiculous.
Same as buying a 400hp car that can't go over 150hp because you didn't pay them enough money.

Big nope for me and I hope no one else ever follows in that sort of footstep!

Don't like that model AT ALL. You bought the same hardware everyone else did and have to pay on top to unlock all features? Big no from me.

I will have to disagree. Previously I could not afford a full blown Kemper. Now I have a Kemper Player lvl 2 and Kemper has one more customer and two sales which they did not have before.

So in this case this model is working for both myself and Kemper. Remember that Kemper did not force me to buy their upgradable product. I went in with both eyes open and I am not alone.

"Your heated seat subscription has expired."
You are missing my point and in doing so missing many sales because there are far more people in this World who can afford a $600 product than those that can afford a 2k product. The AM4 to a certain extent is going to help get some of those people onto the first run of the Fractal ladder. Personally I would rather buy a used FM3 if I was in the market for another Fractal.

The AM4 is $699. No idea where you got $2K from.

They did exactly that. Except that everyone only needs to pay the "basic unit". Ohh and the updates are free.

That is the US price here in Europe it is more expensive. As for my 2k point I thought that I had made a quite clear point. However I will repeat myself. My Kemper Player with upgrades is able to play the same presets that a 2k flagship Kemper model. Which means people like myself who cannot afford a 2k flagship model are able to get on the Kemper ladder from a much lower price point. So when I first bought my Kemper I was able to see and hear what Kemper was about at a much cheaper entry level and after having my Player for a while I decided to pay a little bit extra to upgrade my unit to lvl 2 so that I would get all of the extra effects.

Yes I understand that not everyone likes this type of sale model and I certainly do not agree with continuing subscriptions for car seats. However I believe that a one off upgrade price is fair providing that you have the upgrade for life and it stays with the next owner should you decide to sell. No one was pointing a gun at my head forcing me to buy the upgrade and I did not buy the upgrade until I had owned had the unit for 6 months.

I do not think that this type of sale model is either right or wrong. But it works for people such as myself and I am very happy that after hearing about Kempers for many many years yet knowing that being able to afford to buy one was a none starter I was eventually able to get there in the end thanks to the upgrade model. I'm happy and Kemper now have a share of a sales market which was not open to them before which I guess is my main point.

I think you missed the part where it cannot play FM3 presets?

If the FM3 preset had an amp block with the cab, a reverb and a delay and a overdrive. Manually putting the settings into the AM4 will get you pretty much really close or the same.... With fractal sound quality!

So while it can't share presets from the FM3 or other devices... It definitely shares the same sound.

I loved my FM3 but its size and weight meant that the number of times I'd take it out instead of my FM9 were limited.

I liked how it's built like a tank but dropped it on my foot once when just wearing socks and immediately realized that it was no lightweight.

The AM4 being smaller and lighter is a much more user friendly piece of kit for grab and go, particularly if you want to put it in the pocket of a gig bag. While it's not as powerful as the FM3 any differences are more than made up for by the FM9.

The only times I'd take the FM3 out instead of the FM9 is when I wanted to increase the portability and the AM4 is more user friendly in that regard.

If I could only have a FM3 or AM4 and nothing else I'd go with the FM3. But as an addition to a FM9 the AM4 makes more sense for me.

I'm seriously considering selling my Axe III, FC-12, and Ultra then using the proceeds to pick up an AM4 with change to spare. Once I got the FM9 I stopped using the III anyway and just having the FM9 and AM4 would more than cover my needs. The AM4 could serve as an easy to transport backup for the FM9.

I seem to be talking myself into picking one up.

Hey guys,
in my opinion the AM4 is the perfect entry point into the Fractal Audio world.
It introduces a new, streamlined user interface, a simplified block structure, and a price that makes true Fractal tone more accessible than ever before.

If you’re new to high-end modelers, the AM4 gives you the best possible start:
Fractal-quality amp modeling, DynaCabs, effects, scenes, channels - all in a compact, affordable box that’s incredibly fast and inspiring to use.

And if you ever need more, you can seamlessly move up to the FM3, FM9, or Axe-Fx III - or simply combine the AM4 with the VP4 for a complete, ultra-flexible rig.
But for many players, the AM4 already delivers everything they truly need: pure tone, zero compromise.
Cheers Frank
