🔥Introducing the new AM4 Amp Modeler

Well.. yesterday I was bit upset with going with the FM3 and the AM4 drops in. Today, thinking clearly, I think I still made the best choice

Agreed, having been part of your decision. :-)
Over time maybe you'll be one to help others.

One question about custom foot switch set up on my FM9 I have the far left. Set up like the OMG3 that Matt did and I love. Just presets scenes , FX
Can I do the same or similar here with custom layout
I prefer not to do double tap combos to get back w the mode switch assigned to switch 4 allow me to get from scenes back to presets or a home ?

The AM4 does not have any FC style footswitch customization. You can't customize any footswitch tap in any mode.

What you can do is use Custom Press & Hold in the Footswitches menu for single-switch access to Preset Mode, Scene Mode, and FX Mode.
In fact, that’s how @2112 set up his AM4 for his first video:
Hold 1 = Presets, Hold 2 = Scenes, Hold 3 = FX, Hold 4 = Tuner.

AM4 -> VP4 with a single SPDIF cable and a single MIDI cable using the "scene sync" function is wicked; leave the AM4 on the scenes mode and the VP4 on effects mode for max flexibilty.
Hi Leon: I want to use this with my AXE III on the grid in AXE-Edit - can SPDIF be used or should I use 1/4" cables like I do with my Tonex now ? thanks

That indeed sounds like a wicked setup Leon!

So you're using the VP4 only for post-fx in that setup then right?

But what if you need a whammy? Or a virtual capo upfront?

That's the part I don't understand.. you cannot change the location of the VP4 relative to AM4 in that setup correct?

Your AM4 video sounded killer as always btw!
Cheers,
Joce

Sorry if this has been covered, I really did skim through the pages.

Assuming the amp block has the input boost section like the other Fractal products, potentially eliminating the need for a drive block under certain circumstances?

EDIT (Not volume boost that Leon demod, specifically the boost section in the amp that acts like a drive block sort of)

The footprint is killer.

The only thing that has me slightly going back and forth is the number of blocks, but grrrr. This would be a killer backup to the FM9.

Love replying to myself

Think I found it in the manual.

"The amp's Expert Edit menu includes many of the settings and options found on
our other products, including preamp boost, power supply sag, variac, and more"

As usual, the dissenting opinion is told to F-off. If you disagree with my opinion of the product planning, please explain the market for the AM-4 and the market for the FM3 and how they are different enough to warrant two products that are essentially similar.
It would seem that the dissenting opinion can’t handle that the majority does not agree with them.

Not in that setup, but you can if you put the AM4 in the VP4's effects loop (4CM). This will let place fx before or after the AM4, per preset.

However everything will be mono right? No stereo effects? I've never tied the 4 cm route yet.

Looking to pair this with my vp4 and a real amp. Can this thing work like this:

I have a Mesa California Tweed (single channel).. I would like to use the Mesa for cleans and then run the am4 both in front (pre effects) in the loop (overdriven amp models) which will bypass the Mesa front end.

No. The AM4 is an amp modeler, so its whole design is different. It has features like balanced line-level outputs instead of unity gain, and of course the new AM4 Amp block, which includes built-in DynaCabs. To support live amp selection, it introduces Amp Mode on the footswitches—four fully color-customizable channels plus a built-in output boost. It also has a very tasty set of effects blocks but it does not have all of the blocks that are offered on the VP4.

By comparison, the VP4 is specifically designed to add effects to an amp or modeler. It works great with an AM4, but it’s a separate product with a different purpose—not replaced by AM4 in any way.
So, how is it different than an FM3? Which is more powerful (I'm assuming FM3)

Correct. Which is not much of a sacrifice for a pedalboard setup, IMHO.
I guess the other 'compromise' is that you would not get to use the balanced outputs of the AM4.. so might need to add a DI box to run your board to FOH.. but those of us that already have been using the VP4 in the context of pedalboards likely arlready have that setup..

And I've actually been using my VP4 for bass.. so stereo is moot anyways!
