FM9 Firmware Version 9.02

Curious if anyone here has the same experiences.. I think this firmware sounds and feels fantastic! Super happy about this and thank the Lord for the Fractal team’s commitment to their product!
The things I perceive with this update is that the amps have more warmth with less apparent upper high end harmonics/fizziness (which is an important part of amp characteristics, especially Marshalls) but isn’t lacking in this department and sounds more musical, and at the same time, by no means is there less cut with the tone, but somehow more with more clarity bringing the focus to the fundamental frequencies of the guitar while also having more bounce under the fingers.

I’m REALLY enjoying this! Is this how anyone else perceives this update?

I'll have to get this installed. I gigged over the weekend when the update came out, and I have a week break. I'm still on the 9.01 beta.

That’s a new one — to me, anyway. Support will want to know about it.
Is there a thread for this or is a message or call needed? It cleared itself with a power cycle and has not returned since....

Really enjoying the updates in the amp block, BTW. Clearer without being brighter, and punchier as well. Must be the transformer update, as most of my presets don't involve a cold cathode clipper....

Did a soft reset on all my user presets with the 9.02 firmware. Haven't had a chance to test them all yet, but today at rehearsal I was just blown away by how great the FM9 sounded on the presets that I did get to. Confirmation bias? I don't think so. Did not have to edit any of my presets so far post soft reset. Presets sat great in the mix but cut through, nothing too brittle, just phenomenal tone. Thanks Fractal!

Updated the new FM9 Firmware for this week. Figured i might as well update my FM3 as well. wow still had Firmware 8.0 on it. guess I've been using the FM9 a lot more than FM3. time to share some love with FM3. Thank you, Fractal Team, for all you do. it's hard to keep up with all the updates but well worth the time doing them.

The new firmware and the presets updated for 9.02 are coming across as quite bright to me. They don't sound brittle, just brighter. Hearing it on the 1959SLP Treble, Brit 800, and a few others (admittedly very treble-oriented amps). Feels like it could be any one/multiple of: sensitive to treble/mids today, not used to new firmware, not realizing how much treble guitar has, developing a preference for darker/warmer cabs, or my guitar/pickups are bright (Ibanez S6521Q w/ Tone Zone). Monitoring with HD600's.

Dropping tone to 8 or so on guitar helps some.

just happened again with all presets but this is the one I was on first
Just reloaded the new presets but happened on my own also tuner worked
input and output blocks had signal but no sound on pair of clrs
turned off on and all good
Just to be clear, when you say "happened with all presets" can you clarify?

Usually, in this "broken" state changing presets doesn't resolve anything.

It's probably not a problem with the other presets, it's just that the unit is already in this state and will remain that way until rebooted.

Did you look at the Meters view when it first happened to see which blocks were showing red? In particular the first red block (following the signal flow) and the last block before it goes red.

Most likely the issue is a particular block or model/type of that block so noting that information can narrow things down.

Were you doing anything particular when it happened? Changing scenes, channels, etc...

The reference to all presets means no sound on any other preset once the issue begins
In other words I switch presets but problem persists
I only looked at meters on input and output blocks and they had signal
Tuner worked on startup and then when I went out of tuner no sound out of speakers
First thing I was doing prior to noticing issue was using tuner at initial startup of unit which is pretty much what I always do
It happened 3x so far since 9.02 never happened before
Thanks for looking at this I appreciate it

Hi Matt,

I'll use a term that John Petrucci coined: if you like a more "chocolatey" tone, a great place to quickly adjust the overall brightness of a preset is the master High Cut in the Cab Block. In FM9-Edit, find it on the Preamp page of the Cab Block. Increasing the slope gives you more precision control.

If you want to more closely simulate the effect of lowering the tone control on your guitar, turn to the PRE EQ of the amp page and lower Definition or High Cut.

These are simple tweaks that can really make your tone your own.

Thank you, this helped a lot! Seems to get closer to what I want rather than having to mess with mids/trebles everywhere. On the factory presets that I like (6160), I'm noticing they have aggressive high cuts in the preamp filter already set.

If I set a high cut on the cab preamp filter, is it the same as setting it identically for all loaded IRs/DynaCabs?

Almost the same: filters in the cab preamp are post-preamp so they filter out harmonics introduced by the preamp distortion unlike the filters in the single IR slots... but that's noticeable only if you push the cab's preamp quite hard
