Hello,
I am on latest FM3 10 beta, and have FM3 edit version 07 loaded for windows 64, and new presets :)
When I launch FM3 edit, it no longers does the sync, loading strings, presets, cabs initially. Is there a problem with my install or is this new behaviour?
thanks

That only happens once when you first install a new firmware or when you do the "refresh after new firmware" option.

It shouldn't do it every time you start up edit.

Always love how quick the FM3-Edit updates roll out alongside the beta firmware. The new reverb and amp block stuff looks fun to mess with-especially that “Negative Feedback” control on the Friedman.

Not sure if this is something to do with FM3 edit or the FM3 firmware itself but it's only started happening after I updated both of them.

I have two very similar presets that I've created and exported from an Axe-Fx III running FW 28.04. Previously I've had no issue importing these to my FM3. Now when I import them, the GEQ block disappears and is replaced by a shunt on one of the presets, but not the other.

I don't think it should matter, but the only difference in layout of the two presets is that the one where the GEQ disappears has a pitch block right after input 1, and the other has a shunt.

Edit: If I import these back to my Axe-Fx the GEQ is there on both still.

This usually happens because of CPU being high. If the CPU is high things get replaced with a shunt.

Is the cpu high if you re-add the eq block?

It's about 70% - it still works ok if I manually put the block back in afterwards.

I am not sure if this will help your issue or not but go to settings in your FM edit and click refresh after new firmware and then check

The GEQ block that disappears probably is an "instance" that the FM3 doesn't support.
The FM3 supports GEQ 1 and GEQ2, but not GEQ3 / GEQ4.

Paul Bradshaw already made a video on this firmware on youtube.

Fractal FM3 Firmware 10 beta - more is more

Aha. For these situations there is a tool:

In FM3-Edit, go to Help > View Log > Preset Translation Log.

It says that the GEQ has been removed because:
"Removing Graphic EQ 1: effect exceeds parameter space"

Not sure what this means / why this happens. Maybe Michel can shed some light on this?

@Michael Pickens
That message means that there was not enough room in the preset data to add any more blocks. The number of parameters needed to add the block exceeded the amount of space left in the preset.

Ok thanks for clarifying, I can probably trim something out to avoid this going forward but it is a little more annoying for compatibility between devices as the CPU isn't maxed out and no unsupported blocks are being used.

Just for one more test I fixed it up on the FM3 and exported it back to the Axe-Fx, but after then re-exporting it and re-importing it the block had the same issue and was wiped so I assume the Axe-Fx must be adding more behind the scenes to push it over the limit (I think the file size of the FM3-exported preset is about half that of the Axe-Fx version too).

Do you only need this version of FM3 for the Beta? Or will I need to install a different version when the "final" version comes out too?
