FM3 Firmware Version 10.0 public beta

I'm probably the bravest or dumbest guy i know. I just did the update from 9.0 and there's a big difference in the Friedman BE V1 and V3 amps. This is the only amp I've used since 2012 while using FAS. Very tight and the sensitivity seems to be back on the fretboard. I definitely didn't feel like I had to dig in . For 4 hours the unit never acted weird or froze up.
Thanks FAS!

I adjusted in a couple presets. Had to adjust reverb to lower cpu and lower the room level in the cab. Then just basic amp eq adjusts. As far as updates go, this one I think would be easy to roll back. Sounds good though. Guess it depends on how many presets you use. Try it and see. I like it, no going back for me.
Thanks, it's not a subject of rolling back for sound quality reasons, just that I won't have time and possibilities for retweaking and adapting other impacts (compressor blocks, exp input behavior) at band level until end of August and cannot for that same reason redo any patches in case of CPU problems if any. So either rolling back will be easy (I fear difficulties for rolling back with the Dynacabs file), either it is not. I just want to give this FW a short try and dig it further later. Otherwise, no sweat, I can wait until september.

Not mentioned in the release notes, but the Megatap Delay now has the 22 different types too, and the Reverb block now supports pitch shifting (and therefore provides the same set of 79 types as its brothers). 🍾

Which makes statements that the FM3 is at its life cycle end nonsense. The features of the FM3 are up to par with the FM9 and Axe-Fx, with just a few exceptions. A missing DynaCab isn't that important. CPU constraints can be overcome through gapless preset switching. The factory presets demonstrate its capabilities. The value for money still is enormous.

So am a bit confused about the Dynacabs:-

=> from FW 9.x to FW 10.x has the sound and audio quality of the Dynacabs been improved ?

or

=> are the "improvements" to the Dynacab UI - based ?

The og preset "Horrorfest FM3" now crashes my unit completely when i select it. There is no other way than reboot. One should delete this preset before updating.

The thing is that I cannot delete the old preset. The unit crashes immediately after selection. You cannot delete a preset without the unit selecting it.
Therefore I can’t override the old preset with the new one via preset manager because the unit crashes while trying to deal with this preset.

I have tried half of the new factory presets and am very impressed by the possibilities, even though I have no use for them. I play the FM3 life the way I've been playing since the last century: Wah, drive, amp, cab and as the cherry on the cake an EQ and some delay. My preset uses less than 50% CPU. I have four amps in it, each of which can take me over a gig. I have four drives and could even program four more. I have four EQs for volume adjustment and fine tuning.
Wherever I play, the other musicians are amazed at what a great sound comes out of this little device.
The new firmware has made another leap in sound quality and I can't imagine how it could get any better. But if that happens, I still have 35% CPU left :-)
Many thanks for the fantastic device and the ongoing improvements.

Ah, sorry, now I understand.

Multiple ways to solve this:

On the unit, select a preset. Select STORE, and choose the location of the Horrorfest FM3 preset. Press ENTER > ENTER.

Or use Fractal-Bot and send a single preset to overwrite the preset slot where Horrorfest FM3 is located..

Or in the editor, select another preset in Manage Presets. Then right-click on the Horrorfest FM3 preset and select Clear.

had time this morning with the firmware update, filmed it to make it easier for me as well to hear the differences =)
Wasn't expecting this but my reported CPU usage went down - 74.5 --> 70.5% on my main preset ,
a test preset i made went from 50% to around 46% , i'm not complaining :D

note : when doing the update the input pad was changed to 6 from 12 , not sure why, i changed it back to 12 as it was clipping

initial highlights:
-pitch shift on reverb block is amazing, instant easy shimmer tones
-tighter and quicker response on my main amp
-dyna cab UI change, very nice

and i'm yet to try fuzz/compressor stuff ..

i'll post a video a bit later and put my thoughts in a thread, huge thanks for this update 🙏

This does not work because the unit selects the preset in order to save the empty one there.

This worked:

"On the unit, select a preset. Select STORE, and choose the location of the Horrorfest FM3 preset. Press ENTER > ENTER."

Thank you yek!

I had a similar Problem with the old "Horrorfest" Preset:
I did the Update with the new Presets not in Fractal Bot, but with Manage Presets, because i want them to start at No 101!
The Copy action worked until the "Horrorfest" Preset and stopped - Unit hangs so i had to complete switch FM3 Off/On and also to start my PC again because there was also the USB connection broken. Tried it a second time and same Problem.
Then i decided to use Fractal Bot in FM3 Edit and started copying Bank A to Preset 128, B to 256... - and it worked!

I have to say that mostly all of my own Presets get a "red CPU allert", because of using Plate Reverb or a Compressor.
I had to lower the "Disperson" Parameter from 100% to 25 - 40% and lower the "Echo Density" to 6 (Quality was always at "Economy").
The old Compressors changed to the Dynami-Comp Models with eat also a lot of CPU! I changed them to "Econo-Dyno-Comp" or the "JFET Pedal Compressor" and all Presets worked again.

I am so happy with al the new things to try out, sadly it is so nice weather outside...!

Thank you Fractal for al this Goodies and have a Rest now!

Hey thanks for this massive update!

I have a simple question.

My presets are 99% done for my 2025 tour.
I use exclusively the 59slp and the deluxe for clean. And that’s the best tone I’ve ever had in my life lol.
Is there any changes on the algorithm on those amps? Any change in feel, dynamic etc ?

I spent so many hours tweaking the advanced parameters on the 59 to create my personal dream of this amp that I’m really afraid to update for the first time lol.

And finally another question:
I use just a small amount of reverb in my main preset, mainly to avoid that too much cab in your face feel and give just a little space.
Does the updated room in the cab block could replace it ? And how cpu hungry is this room option now?

Thanks again for all this wonderful work.

published a quick video on the update in case (made a separate thread to keep feedback on the firmware clear here
https://forum.fractalaudio.com/threads/fm3-video-on-public-beta-firmware-10-0.213103/

some feedback
-Input pad changes to 6 after the update when it was set to 12 prior (guitars started clipping the input)
-'danger' of getting infinite feedback pitch shifted loops which will slam the output if you're not careful (this is more user/beware when trying out different settings)
-despite expecting CPU usage increase, mine actually went down 4-5%
-cleaner/tighter more precise gain/saturation sounds (very cool)

i'll get to test the fuzz / compressors / drive blocks eventually

Paul, share this video

Tried the CPU difference of the Gold Plate with minimal and maximal quality settings. used only Input, Output, Amp, Cab and Reverb Block on my "Normal FM3":

Minimal (Dispersion 0%, Echo Density 4, Quality Economy): 33.0%
Maximal (Dispersion 100%, Echo Density 8, Quality Ultra high): 73.3%

Wow thats 40% CPU difference!
But also in the lowest settings the sound is ok in lower Mix settings. Also a higher depht in the mod section makes it less metalic in lowest settings!
