Ok... First things I BELIEVE I'm noticing on the 2203 patch I just created and tested on v27.03 vs the now v28; due to the new Triode algorithms, is there now more "bounce" in the notes and separation of string detail in chords, and less fizz?? This is what I feel I'm perceiving; more clarity, more dynamics/bounce, and slightly less OR more musical fizz/harmonics. Is this what that Triode algorithm achieves?

EDIT: Trying the BE V2 and HBE V2 now; they sound smoother and more refined; less hard sounding and strident in the top end, yet tighter in the low end while still achieving the classic dark/full low end Friedman thing!

IME notes are rounder, less fizzy and the feel is improved so your experience seems to jibe with mine.

can confirm this experience on my end as well!

IMO this is a big change to the overall sound so update with backup if you really like your sound

on a personal note try the 5150 red model with this new firmware, highly recommend

Nice! Yeah, like more thump in the notes, and the fizz seems to be more a "part of" the core tone and glued in, if that makes sense. These Friedmans remind me of like, the older "idealized" Friedmans from a few years ago; the benefits of those previous algorithms but with all of the improvements you've been making along the way. They sound and feel much closer (in my personal/subjective experience) to what I expect a Friedman to sound like based on previously owning one and from sound clips I hear of them recorded. REALLY fantastic job and much appreciated!
 
I don't know if it's just been a while since I've played the Matchbox D-30 model, but I feel like I can stack drives in front of it without it farting out and collapsing like it used to. I'm not sure if that's due to the new Triode algorithm or not, but it's pretty awesome!

Updated default Negative Feedback value for Friedman BE/HBE models. On the actual amp the negative feedback comes off the speaker jack (for some weird reason). Previously the amp models assumed an 8-ohm cabinet which would make the feedback effectively off the 8-ohm tap. However, the matching cabinet is 16 ohms and using a 16-ohm cabinet results in more negative feedback and a “tighter” tone so we’re now using that as a default value as people seem to prefer that. The models were also “remastered” as a result.

I thought the NFB being taken off the speaker jack was only done on older BE100’s (I guess because some old Marshalls did it 🤷‍♂️) and they’ve been taken off the 4 Ω tap for a while now (regardless of where the switch is set). Could be wrong though…..

Maybe I’m in the minority but 4 Ω 100k NFB sounds best to me. I guess I’ll need to save presets at the 4 Ω value instead (which is awesome to be able to do).

Our reference amp is a 2018 model year. It has NFB off the speaker jack. if you prefer a lower NFB value you are in luck because Fractal Audio products are the only modelers I'm aware of that allow the user to adjust the NFB.

I’d need to double check mine to be sure, but I don’t remember it being on the speaker jack. And I seem to recall one of the changes on the last revision of the BE before the DLX was moving the NFB to the 4 Ω tap.

Here’s a post from Dave Friedman himself saying that moving NFB to 4 Ω was one of the changes:

There’s posts on facebook from him verifying the same, and that the Smallbox also moved to the 4 Ω tap in 2016.

Maybe whoever built yours slipped into old habits. The current gen BE100DLX has a 3 way response switch for NFB, so they’re all valid ultimately.

But yeah, one of my favourite aspects of Fractal is the ability to adjust the NFB. I do it all the time and love it. Marshall 1959HW is another one that has the NFB wire hooked up to the speaker jack “because it’s old school”.

I hand-traced the schematic for the amp myself and the NFB is clearly off the speaker jack. I don't really care what internet says, all I know is what our reference amp has. If you want a different value you can change it.
