Updated CPU Performance Comparison?

It would be really awesome to have an updated version of these numbers for each current Fractal product. I guess it would be more complex as it would have to account for the dedicated stuff (amps for Axe3, Reverbs for FM9, etc.).

It would really only be relevant to actual processing power not how the devices really compare, because of the dedicated stuff as you mentioned.

The FM9 is about 50% of the Axe Fx III and the FM3 is 50% of the FM9.

I have had presets on my FM9 that actually use more CPU on the Axe Fx! :o

I guess one way to show it would be to say: FM9 = 10,716 + X*2 (where X is the CPU to run one of the Reverbs in HQ), etc...

Bumping this thread as I am unable to use dynacabs and ultra high reverbs on my "kitchen sink" Axe3 preset. I am trying to determine if the VP4 has more CPU than the difference between the Axe3 and the Axe3 Turbo. As it is, it would be more $ to sell my non-turbo and buy a turbo than the VP4.

I don't think overall CPU rating comparison is very reliable for determining what a preset can/can't do - + I'm not sure there's enough publicly available info for forum members to tell you that anyway.

Post your Ax3 preset - maybe there is CPU savings in there we can ID for you.

Wouldn't you already have enough info to determine if the VP4 option will work? (ie: Knowing the VP4 could comfortably do end of chain delays, and reverbs for you with minimal/no latency impact by having Ax3>VP4 connected via Spdif, delete those FX from your Ax3 preset and see how much CPU capacity that frees up for the cab configs you want). Also, if you post the preset with info on what additions you want but can't fit in your nonTurbo, someone here with a Turbo could try it an tell you if it fits wrt CPU.

fyi - I did a big post in another thread here relating to cab related CPU usage considerations on Ax3-mk1 - maybe this will help also.

Here is my preset. As it is, I have quite a few limitations in there already - two regular IRs instead of DynaCabs, Only one Reverb set at normal, and I had to remove a megatap delay. I have also offloaded Drive/Fuzz/Looper/Feedbacker to an HXFX and some pedals. I realize that I am doing a lot of things here and I guess way more than most considering Cliff's insistence that the AxeFx3 CPU can handle most patches. I really like having a kitchen sink patch where I turn things on and off as needed. I would include way more in this if I could and am always struggling with CPU. This partch is at 85%+ on scene 4.

I don't really like the idea of getting a VP4 because it limits routing options significantly and it only adds 4 FX. It also adds to my floorboard which already has an FC-12, the HxFX, a box with four external switches, four foot expression controllers and a box with two more expression knobs. I'd love to know how much more I could do with a turbo.

Thanks for that.

It seems that Turbo is giving ~16% more CPU as opposed to the 20% shown in the chart above (I realize that this is all preset specific and didn't expect the #s to line up perfectly). I guess I'll have to wait for AxeFX4 and hope that it has much more CPU just by the nature of it using more modern chips...
