Is it confirmed that if you send PRE FX to the font of your amp you are limited to MONO POST FX? If true, that's the only real "WFT were they thinking" that I've seen.
I do agree here, they could have made the outputs TRS so you could split them that way. I may use it as a post fx only though and would have stereo then at least.

According to the manual, you can’t have stereo effect loops. So I wouldn’t be able to have dual tonex ones in the loop. Huge bummer

I'm curious about this. Do you currently use 2 Tonex pedals now, in parallel at the same time? If so, are you using the same models/captures in both? That would be cool, but I'd worry about phase issues resulting from potentially varying latency times.

I have Tonex One, and have thought about grabbing another now that they are adding effects. This would be a super tiny backup rig for my FM9. Probably connecting them serially, rather than parallel - but being able to run two amps at once without phase issues would be epic.

don't think so - but great for what it is.
Analyzing here, in summary the VP4 (FX4) is practically an FM3. however:
  • without Amp
  • without Cab/IR
  • 435 effects
  • Has 104 Total Presets
  • Can be used as Preset Mode
  • Can be used as Scene Mode
  • Can be used as Effects Mode
  • Has Tap Tempo / Animator
  • Has 4 Footswitches
  • Has 4 Blocks per preset
  • Has 4 Scenes per preset
  • Has 4 channels per block.
  • Inputs for 2 Expression Pedals
  • has Envelope Follower
  • has ADSR
  • has Sequencer
  • has Modifier
  • has Pitch Detector
  • Has Midi In/out.
  • Has Effects Loop (Send/ Return).

It seems to have I/O optimized for an amp. The FM3 does not have this. (Though I believe the FM9 DOES)

As an all-in-one aficionado, this device isn't for me... But I gotta say, I really like the industrial design language Fractal is adopting - a smaller, streamlined, more modern look (IMO Ampero II Stage is killin' it in that regard) that portends good things for the next-generation FMx consoles.
And as far as this ol' grumpy cooter is concerned, touchscreen smudgescreen - give me remote wireless editing any day of the week. Well done, Fractal - excited for the future!

Well, I rarely played the 4cm method. Too cumbersome for live use. Unless the FX unit is in the rack next to the amp.
But I have a 4cm setup with the AMP1 and an FX8. Mono though. Most people will play mono.

You also need two - let's say Friedman BE 100 for the stereo effect. I think the person who has two Friedmann Be 100s on stage will also mount two VPs in his effects drawer.

They should have just added 1 additional output so this would be a non-issue. This is a stereo effects processor that supports pre & post effects. It's neutered on arrival. I'll still buy it though.

Yeah I run them in parallel... 1 amp in R and a different amp in L. I am still learning, but I'm following what all the big CCM/P&W guitarists are doing. They always hard-pan L and R when in stereo, never sum because of phasing issues. If mono is needed, just going out of L and ignoring R.

I have tried running the exact same amp model on both Tonexes, but still had phasing issues when summing. This was at the beginning when I was learning though, so I need to try again now that I have my full setup.

I also run tonex last in the chain, the sound of reverbs/delays/wet effects into the amp gives it that distinct CCM/P&W wash-y sound.

We now know that the VP4 doesn't have amp and cab modeling.

But... building on past contributions of Cliff and Cooper, there are workarounds.
Here's an Axe-Fx preset, consisting of 4 blocks (plus In/Out), no amp/cab. Created in 5 minutes. Can be improved a lot with further finetuning.

The exact preset/sounds should be be possible using just a VP4.

When I had the Axe FX III there was an option for high and normal quality on some effects. Is this possible with the VP4 or it will have only the normal quality?
