Warmoth's new website BLOWS!!!

Old thread I know, but I had to vent my frustration at the Warmoth site.. it is woefully inadequate for browsing any of their on-hand stock. A search for an in-stock telecaster with any kind of finish option takes MINUTES to load. This might be a first-world problem, but the days of web pages loading like it's 2006 are ... well back in 2006.

this is what happens when you try to keep web dev in-house to save coin.

It is RIDICULOUS that they don't rectify this. Mentioned via email, twice with link to this thread. I also spoke to them and they KNEW of the issue. YET, nothing is done.......... The small amount saved by having all internal with servers, couldn't out pace the LOST sales from frustrated consumers. Unless you like speeds that my 1995 Gateway with dial-up had.

Yes, the new site is a piece of broken pile of turd on fire. Page load can take 5 minutes, or more often than not it just crashes completely. And its been like this for years now. The old site was fast and I liked checking out cool looking bodies with fancy woods, now it's just as fun as peeing on an electric fence. That can't be good for business either. I literally went on the site once with the idea of buying a body for my partscaster but ended up just being frustrated with the site and scrapped the whole idea.

… and regarding above, in 2006 the site worked really well! :D Now it doesn't work at all. Not on desktop, iphone, android. Phone version doesnt have any filters anymore (raw, finished, etc). But the worst part is that it doesnt work even in most basic rudimentary way: load a page.

Just checked site....SAME......truly unbelievable.
I thought maybe you were being a bit dramatic, so I just went to the site.
I went to Strat Bodies - in stock - clicked to see 'all'.
That was at least 5-6 minutes ago. The page is still loading.
Closing it now. I would never have enough patience to shop on this site.

For real. It is crazy. Try sorting anything. Takes multiple minutes between sorts. Price, wait..... Filters, wait....... Etc..........................

Hello,
Unfortunately, due to the nature of what we offer, making this sort of change is not a quick fix. We have been working furiously on a new site, since this one launched. If we sold simple retail items, it would be easy, but the amount of customization and compatibility makes programming a site extremely difficult. It's not slow servers like everyone seems to think. We have to use very complex conditional logic to program the site so that all the right options are available only on the correct items and navigate compatibility with everything. We made some tweaks to the program to speed it up a touch but it is limited in it's capabilities.

We are hoping to have a resolution to this in the coming months but it takes a great deal of work and then testing before we can go live.

Jeff,

This has been ongoing for a LONG time and still is not resolved. Your old site worked fine. The amount of money you all are losing is staggering. Plus long time clients like me will seek building elsewhere. Whatever is not happening is something that only you all are having as NO OTHER SITE I VISIT HAS THIS PROBLEM!!! I bet in 3-4 months when I check back...it will be the exact unuseable site. Love that you release videos on all you do and then spend no time or effort to get this ironed out.

Translation: "Our dev team blows and the person that signed off on the new site going live is freakin' moron."

The site performance is a joke and there is no legitimate reason for it to begin with and allowing it to be this crappy for a year is pathetic. They have definitely lost business because of the site performance. I know that I have simply lost interest a few times when I was thinking of some ideas for builds.

Not a trivial site to build, but not as impossible as they're making it seem. I wonder if the database schema is poorly designed for its purpose. Even if that's true, they should have been able to refactor it by now.

Makes me want to have a crack at it myself (longtime with dev here), but I've got a gig that keeps me "pretty busy". ;)

How the hell are they doing any business? I love their products, but it is disheartening to see this be so bad for so long and it was perfectly fine with old site. I use to go to their site to just browse and have fun...so yeah...this is frustrating.

Yeah....that's not true.
That business is not unique, that site is not complex.
What's the website where you can design your guitar by picking the body, the neck, the colors, the trim, the pickup config, etc....
That site works lightening fast.

Kiesel ?

From what I can tell their web site is hosted at Rackspace. Not sure if it's the code, the network or the platform it runs on. I believe it's Magento. There are other themes, optimization tools, and things they could have done. But yeah, it's been unbearable since they upgraded way back when. I just tested and loaded the main page in 3 seconds, went to the gallery and bump 18 seconds. It's brutal.

Not much we can do but commiserate on this forum. :) Thanks for the sharing the email.

BTW - Have have 4 Musikraft necks they're awesome! I enjoy them more than my Warmoth necks. I still buy their bodies when I'm patient enough to get through a purchase.

Took down post on Facebook as Fractal asked nicely not to involve them in that manner.

I just don't understand why this is not resolved with Warmoth? Obviously, I like their products and use to love going to the site to just build things, all the time. Oh well.....
