Fracpad III

I am a new fractal AX8 owner. I use AX Edit on my laptop. A friend advised me of FracPad III. My concern is it’s a third party app. Would you all recommend it?

My questions are….

1. Is it capable of doing all the functions that AX Edit performs?

2. With it, not being a fractal product, how well is it supported by the creator?

3. Is it worth the $45?

@AlGrenadine’s FracPad is a very capable piece of software.

1. Is it capable of doing all the functions that AX Edit performs?
It can do 99% of what Axe-Edit can do, and some other things that Axe-Edit can’t do.

2. With it, not being a fractal product, how well is it supported by the creator?
FracPad is very well supported. It’s kept updated regularly, and the author is active here on this forum.

3. Is it worth the $45?
For me, yes.

And you can try it fully for free on Windows /Mac
Or try a limited version on Android / ios, called FracPad lite

I downloaded directly from the website…what would be the difference in the files? I’m an audio/video production teacher and we use my AX8 in our classes. Thought it would be cool for the kids to see this in operation.

on the website the files are for Win/Mac/Android, not iOS
ios != mac

It is not. Very unreliable - I use FM3 paid the money and bought the Yamaha Bluetooth. It’s ok at home but not in a live situation. It freezes up after a few minutes.
Best to use the printer cable directly to your laptop for reliability. I really tried to like this, but it’s not reliable.

If this was true there would be lots of people reporting that.

Maybe if you posted some details then @AlGrenadine could offer some ideas on resolving your issues...

I experienced similar problems using the Yamaha MD-BT01. No work possible.
Contacting AlGrenadine, he told me, that the Yamaha causes problems and does NOT work properly with Fracpad.

Using CME Wireless MIDI adapters Fracpad works fine and very stable.

Previously I tried the CM1 Connector (now Xvive) which works fine with Fracpad, too.

UPDATE and correction

Uuuh … I have to admit: I remembered falsely.

Using CME now for long time I accidentally mixed up the function of MD-BT01 and the (dis)function of (Xvive) CM1 in my memory.

So, now to be correct:

In my environment:
Yamaha MD-BT01 did work properly.
CM1 did not work properly.

That’s my personal experience, not more, not less.
Your environment may give you different results perhaps.

So sorry, if I mislead someone unintentionally.

I've had problems too, with fm3, fm9, Bluetooth and USB.

Freezes, unreliable refresh, changes view layout randomly ...

I gave up and bought a dedicated old laptop.

Same happened to the other guitarist in my band.

It didn't work for me with either a smartphone or a tablet. In my case, he blamed Samsung, whose Bluetooth is said to cause problems. The hope remains that Fractal Audio will bring an Android editor onto the market at some point.

Thank you! I bought the Yamaha because in the app it shows that the Yamaha MDT01 as recommended. The app is not working reliably with the Yamaha.
I’ll give it another shot with your suggested CM1 connector. It would be great to be able to tweak the FM3 at sound check with my phone or IPad while on tour.

Thanks for the correction! Would you update your post above to reflect that? It would help avoid the inevitable “I read somewhere that...”

Thanks!

Indeed the CME 1 is even more unstable, and stopped working soon. It also has a jack that sits in the way of the Fractal power plug.
I am giving up on this and going back to the reliable printer cable connection. I am touring a lot and prefer traveling(mostly flying) light, without laptop.

My bad experience with this could be related to the last bit of print cable USB, the iPad connector.

I can't find an Apple original connector, and I suspect the app is unusable due to this.

Would love to find out that with a proper connector, I've not wasted 50€ on this app.
