Label for hold function (SOLVED)

I'm using the FM-3 with an FC-6 and have one particular switch on the FC-6 that I only want to use for a hold function and leave the tap unassigned. is there any way to put a label on the switch that will just put the hold function label on the switch?

I'm pretty sure there's a straightforward way of achieving this, but if there isn't, just have the tap feature do something null (like if you're in view 1, select view 1, which does nothing). This lets you use the tap function's label, but the button doesn't do anything when you tap because the assigned function is doing nothing.

Correct. I was thinking the tap label to represent the hold’s function and then use the hold label as a ‘state’. Ex: name the hold function as “ON” so when invoked the label is ‘ON’ and when off goes back to the tap label.

That would work.

That's a useful idea!

The Hold label only ever shows when you trigger it...
Or if you use the 'reveal hold' function. I have an external footswitch permanently assigned to momentary 'reveal hold' so I can always check all the hold functions of the onboard footswitches. I thought I also read that the hold function can be displayed in the mini-display (i.e., separate from using a custom name as suggested above), but I haven't tried it.

Not possible currently... Except as noted already.
thanks - I just found the reference in the Footswitch Functions Guide I was thinking about - it says "The Mini-Display can show the function ("Hold Funcs") or your choice of custom label." I thought this was saying that there was a way to have any mini-display show the hold function of its switch, but it must just be saying that if you assign a switch as a 'hold reveal' you can have the mini-display for that hold reveal switch read either "Hold Funcs" or something custom, which makes sense.
