External Control of AX8 Footswitches

So I'm got a bit of an odd question. I've got a an AX8 that I keep on my desk for ease of turning it on and off and having access to the amp knobs, but I would like to have foot switch access to the pedals. I'm looking into a few midi controllers but I wanted to know if you can assign midi cc values on an external controller to control the hardware switches on the AX8. Looking through the CTRL page in the I/O section of the setup option, I see you can assign a midi cc to each effect block bypass, but I was hoping you could assign a cc value to each foot switch on the unit so I could basically have a clone of the 8 main buttons on the floor while the unit sits on my desk.

I hope this makes sense and I apologize if this was brought up before. Its kinda a hard thing to search on.

You can’t do exactly what you’re describing, controlling the footswitch functions directly, but you can assign MIDI CC to anything the 8 switches can do. So if it’s a combo of scene switches and effect IAs, you can do that.

If you’re wanting your MIDI controller layout to change with each AX8 preset change, it will be more involved and require a lot more manual setup.
 
You can’t control the hardware switches because they are on the device and not meant to control remotely. You can however control anything in the SETUP> I/O > CTRL list via MIDI.

How manual is the manual way you are talking about. Is there a way to set the cc controls on a preset by preset basis. That would work for my needs.

That’s up to your foot controller, nothing to do with the AX8.

I don’t think any hardware from anyone works the way you’re thinking. It’s always the controller that has to be able to do that.

Does not work because AXe8 edit does NOT get you into settings. I asked for this over a year ago. Hasn't happen and maybe it's just not feasible.Set up button in axe8 edit takes you to the Graphic EQ period.
What I did for a long time is use my midi mate to access the presets and things I needed. Not the best solution but it helped me over the hump and now I do not need the settings access...Only once in a while.

What are you doing in settings all the time?

This was in my initial purchase. When I first got the axe 8. That is when most use the settings features. Getting familiar, etc. I assume with 5 posts and his question the OP is in the midst of setting up his axe 8. Boy tough crowd here.

I think it’s fair question. I didn’t read any “toughness” into it. It’s a straightforward question. How else could he have phrased it to find out why you’d like faster access to it?

Well Chris, See, he did NOT ask or even HINT at YOUR question. Also, re read my answer. Please read his question again. Should I have listed everything I did in settings area? Your interpretation of his question is different tha the actual question. just stated my experiences when I first got the AX8. So let me ask you, Why would one go into the settings? Kind of tough to answer isn't it? Your action is what is uncalled for Chris, not mine.

even that is a different question.

the answer you gave was answering his question. from there, i'm saying i don't see why his question had a "wow tough crowd" reaction. it was a straight forward question. what was so "tough crowd" about it? he was just asking for more information explaining why you were always in the Settings menu, so he could try to understand why someone would be in the settings menu so often since he isn't.

i added the "faster access" part because that's clearly a benefit of having it in AX8-Edit. that's the main benefit of AX8-Edit to begin with. so i don't think that was far off or adding too much to the question. that's the point of AX8-Edit.

you must admit that you've had interesting reactions to people's posts over the years, and that you might tend to interpret things to a more critical intensity than others do. i feel you read the "tough crowd" thing into his question, and as someone who posts here frequently, i'm just giving my perspective that i don't see any "tough crowd" thing in that question. i'm allowed to say that. anyone is. i don't think i did anything uncalled for.
 
Chris, you could read his question many ways except your interpretation. I answered his question anyway and quite precise and friendly. The tough crowd was kind of tongue-in cheek.
Sorry, but I do not see where your input was relevant except to "call me out" so to speak. Since you interpreted his question a certain way why is it you didn't see my intent?

My question was sincere. I have had my AX8 since it's debut and I have only had to enter the settings area a handful of times. I can't imagine buying a separate foot controller to control my foot controller just to have easy access to something I never access. I sincerely am curious why someone would need to do this. As usual my motivation was 100% selfish...do I need to have constant access to the settings area? Am I missing something?

Yes you are missing something. Not everyone works like you do. Try referring to the OPs question. I actually had my ax8 on my desktop and used my old midimate to access some simple program changes as I learned the device. Furthermore, I have owned every axefx since the Standard thru the XL+, so I was no beginner with fractal products. I also am a retired Computer tech.
For me it was easier to work with the way I did. I am sorry you cannot see how some might prefer this to learn.
I had no way of knowing what was in your mind. Hence a simple "harmless" t-i-c statement has turned into some major issue. I give up.
