Axe-Fx II "Quantum" Rev 4.01 Public Beta

I am going to have to say there are probably more than 12 XL owners. Obviously there are going to be more Mk I and II owners since the unit has been around longer, but again, anyone who bought that unit expecting lifetime updates and support are a little delusional.
I'm not expecting anything, but I've seen just as many XL owners in this thread saying they'd drop the features as well if it meant the mkI/II guys got a little more longevity. Frankly, aside from a certain person earlier in the thread I've seen more animosity from people telling us suck it up because we're "ungrateful assholes" than mk owners saying if this is the end so be it but if there's a little more juice to squeeze do it. I genuinely don't care either way, I'm happy with my unit but if trimming some fat gives me a little more time then by all means I vote for that

I would generally agree with you on that point, but one person's fat is another person's steak, so there is the issue.

6 people? lol I am quite sure there are a few more than 6 people who own an XL. By that logic, when they remove modeling versions and that buys you another year, then what will you want to take away from those of us who shelled out the money for the more up to date product? I just don't feel XL users who decided to spend the extra money for the most up to date, non discontinued product, should be expected to sacrifice any features just so others who can't, won't, upgrade can continue to get updates to a discontinued product line.

It is ridiculous that people just EXPECT continued support for a discontinued product, and at the expense of holding back the capabilities of the current flagship product line. That just makes zero sense.
I get it, your frustrated because you bought an older version of a product that is now reaching it's end of life span. But the users who are purchasing new XL units should not have to make concessions for the money that was paid for their units. This is no more selfish than you EXPECTING XL users to sacrifice features for you.

If money doesn't allow you to upgrade to an XL then perhaps you sacrifice and sell your unit and purchase an AX8, much less than the cost of an XL. Sorry to sound like a dick, but the only people that I feel should have to sacrifice here are the people that are instant upon using an out of production product.
Actually I own an AX8. I used to own a Mark II but sold it several months back. And while there are more than 6 people who bought an XL/XL+ a very small percent, as indicated by the comments in this thread, actually use this feature. It is not like asking that any amps or effects be removed. It's a feature that is used by only a few people. And even this if they need to go back to a previous version it is a small inconvenience. I dont think that is too much to ask. Anyway, it is ultimately in Cliffs hands. Peace.

Please remember that it has been said many times that mark I and Mark II Axes would have the ability to update for quite a bit of time into the future. Complaints started because updates were coming fast and furious over the last 18 mo or so and people that had many presets wanted the best of both worlds...... To update and keep previous presets. That was Cliff trying to help a vocal minority if I remember correctly. Keeping multiple firm wares available on the units was never an original design decision from everything I have seen/read over the years ( Cliff, please advise if I am dead wrong.....). It makes no sense to me to stop updating a device that is perfectly able to currently handle it because multiple firm wares are available on the device. If you want an old firmware add it. I am a Mark II owner but I would feel exactly the same way if I had an XL+.

I'm loving 4.01. seem to notice some nice touch sensitivity and openness that sounds amazing! I've mostly played the AX8 lately so it may just be my imagination.? The new amps are excellent!!

Dear FAS,
I say feck us Mk I and II users. The good owners of XL XL+ paid good money for the top of the line product. They are totally entitled to their choice of modeling and what not.

Let development continue. In the meantime I am stuffing my piggy bank with dollars for AXE-FX III sometime... soon(er) or later...

Yet that's exactly what Cliff has said he's probably going to do. Maybe he knows the company and the impact his decisions have on customer satisfaction, R&D etc, better than we do.

And look, I'm not attacking you here. That's not my intent -- just having a discussion. You've always struck me as one of the reasonable folks around here. :)

Have a good evening!
Don't sweat it and thumbs up for the kind word. Almost any strongly worded or passionate post sounds like pure hatred on the interwebz. Sometimes I'll post something when I am hungry, in a hurry, or haven't had coffee, whatever and I'll go back and just be like oh man that sounded way worse than I meant it. I'm sure IRL this would all be done over beers and spirited camaraderie; so no personal offense taken or intended. I think all us old timers here have faith that FAS will do right by us as long as it is feasible/practical.

What people need to understand is that if the older modeling versions are removed they are removed for all versions including the XL and XL+. It's a shared code base and it's too much work to be putting in a zillion #ifdefs to handle the Mark I/II case.
How hard would it be to upgrade the boot ROM of the earlier versions?
