What Did You Buy?

Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is

We're always talking about what we like here. The question is, what have you liked well enough to actually purchase? Would like to start keeping track of that here. If you would start logging your album purchases it would be appreciated. This will be for albums only, no songs, and it will be whether hard copy or downloads. I must confess I don't buy near as much as I used to.

Reasons are :

1) I am retired and have become cheap,

2) there is so much available to listen to online and

3) I already own more music than anyone could listen to.

I do go on occasional buying sprees and I buy album downloads when they are on sale. I will log my most recent purchase after this post and will do so in the future. Feel free to do the same. You may also add anything else about the purchase

Thanks!

My most recent purchase was Allan Holdsworth's "Earth". It was sold on Pledgemusic.com because he couldn't afford to pay musicians to play on a new album. Sad state of affairs.

Last thing I got that really got me excited was Joe Robinson Gemini Vol 1 and Gemini Vol 2.

Both are great... ITunes downloads. I really only listen to music on my iPhone, so that's the best option for me.

If I like a song, and I like the band enough....I'll download/buy the album or some songs, on iTunes.
I don't download any music illegally....mainly because I did a lot in the past and I'm sick of getting malware/viruses.

Wow, I thought you were going to be altruistic and talk about how artists deserve the meager pay they get for creating their art... But, no, just not stealing to avoid malware :(

I'm not retired but will be 51 soon, I try to mainly buy and support the efforts of my favorite old bands/musicians that are still creating new music. Occasionally something new catches my interest enough to buy (usually a modernized version of an older style)

Sad thing is record companies know this and have it down to a science, that's the reason most modern music (and artist) are designed for younger generations- because they buy more music than us. Which really sucks!! IMO

As an artist who gets meager pay for my own music sales on iTunes.....I don't care if people burn/steal my band's music. As long as they listen, I get personal satisfaction....that's enough reward for me.

Onslaught - The Force 30Th Anniversary edition, one of the greatest thrash metal bands ever. And the lead singer is a personal friend, so I am kind of bias :D

I last bought something a bit off my beaten path, but I like it. "The Strong One" is a cd by Jamaican artist Etana. A good listen, nothing guitar-specific, but enjoyable.

While that may be true, we're not talking about your music...;)

To each their own... But justifying theft doesn't make it not be theft.

I buy albums I like, and appreciate the art, and want the band to continue making the art. So by purchasing, hopefully with the screwed up record industry they can keep on making their art (at least I tell myself this). Kids think it's cool to just steal it, it's part of being rebellious.
Music has been devalued, and it's just sad.

Totally agree!

We're not?
I'm an artist with music for sale on iTunes.....why do I not qualify as someone selling music/albums?

I didn't say that. You are not stealing your work, you are stealing someone else's work.

The person who created that may not share your opinion.

I buy music from old bands that I like, and less often than I used to. I liked Salsh and Myles Kennedy's last two albums, and I buy CDs on Amazon Music, because I get instant factory MP3s and then the CD is delivered to me.
