how about input 2 too? try that too. maybe you could determine if it's a problem in the analog or the digital section of the unit this way and see what you do from there.

Eleven Rack questions

The 11R is not as complicated and less tweakable than the Axe Fx. It also has a lot of rotary knobs so it is very easy to tweak without a PC based editor. It's easy to get a decent tone. If you don't have the money for an Axe Fx get an 11r. You'll be satisfied. The pod HD will probably NOT...

I get sound only from one of the analog outputs. Other is dead.

Diode was faulty after all and was causing the problem. It was replaced and the Axe was fixed. Nevertheless I was very dissapointed that the seller didn't let me know about this fault. The transaction left a bad taste in my mouth.

UPDATE: I pulled out D10 out of the circuit, and it is faulty (short circuited). Do you think that this could be causing the problem with the lack of sound in left channel? Also , what are the characteristics of these diodes? I'd like to buy a same or similar one.

I did a few tests with my multimeter. D4 and D16 on their bottom sides are short circuited between each other (they correspond to the channel that doesn't work), whereas D13 and D16 don't behave like that. D4 doesn't measure like a diode while ON the circuit. Its equivalent D16 which is on...

I swapped the cables from the motherboard to the panel board (to the potis) between OUPUT 1 and OUTPUT 2 and no fix with that either.

Did try that all. Nothing happened. I did however check with the multimeter inside, and I noticed that a diode on the left channel (which has the problems) seems to have continuity (tested on the circuit) to both directions. The right channel (which works normally) doesn't show this behavior...

Connecting USB to a high-end DAC?

I did that with my 11R and a hi-end DAC. I also did it with software modellers. It DID improve the sound.

Thinking of installing a headphone amp to AXE FX. Any suggestions?

I would like to have the Axe always connected to the headphone amp. I don't to hook and unhook cables all the time. When I play without the PC on I'll monitor throught headphones. Or I'll just use the sound cards headphone out.

Thinking of installing a headphone amp to AXE FX. Any suggestions?

Say you want to monitor your Axe Fx with headphones and at the same time send a stereo signal to the input of your sound card (all unbalanced). How would you go about doing that? I mean one set of outputs would go to the headphone amp. What would you have left?

my question is if the electronics and the chassis of the Axe are made in the USA. Or if it is assembled in the USA. I just want to know out of curiousity. Nothing more. But I am aware of Cliff's statement, but this doesnt answer my aforementioned questions.

I didn't get any solid answer to be honest, other than Cliff's statements that it is made in USA. I just asked how much of it and what parts of it are actually made in USA. I didn't really get any replies to that. Instead I got lots of 'humorous' replies.

I am thinking installing a headphone amp circuit inside the Axe Fx Std. Is there enough space to place such a small board (1x2 inches)inside the Axe FX? Would it be ok if the headphone amp input was wired directly to the output jacks? Has anybody tried such a project?

any hints for clips anyone? is the marsha cascaded gain type of amp? or plexi type? I was reffering clips of the first variety (jcm800 style, slash style). Why did they choose to model a rather unknown amp rather than some other Marshall or boutique plexi type amp?

I have been listening to lots of clips lately looking out for Marshall models on the AXE FX since it is what i am mostly interested in. JCM800s and PLEXIs I haven't been really able to find some clips of the 800 model that really excel. The plexi models where good but not really nailing it...

I live in EUROPE and apparently, it will not be easy to get a new AXE without selling the jube. And resale is pretty high for used units. Also I am kind of afraid that in a year there will be a lower cost alternative with less features and my purchase will be kind of a waste...
