Your thoughts on new Gibson Victory Guitars?

So I don't hold out much hope for this thing.....

Seems if you emotionally detach yourself from the brand stigma, PRS have done absolutely everything Gibson should have done to improve their guitars in the last forty or so years, and made a much, much better instrument all round for similar bucks.

And for everyone who says "yeah, but you can't beat that bottom end thump that you get from a Les Paul", that's the bit the front of house sound guy is going to EQ out of the mix if he/she know what they are doing because it makes the front of house sound flabby and muddy........

It’s like someone force bred an explorer and an SG. While ligers are bred for their strength in magic, there is no magic in this mix. The headstock is two sizes too large. Offset dots. Strange mutant pick guard.

It’s a no for me.

I think the Victory -- the new one, more than the original -- looks kinda nice. In fact I think it's the only Gibson I have ever been interested in for appearance' sake.

But, then, I have always preferred the look of S-shaped guitars. To my eye, the Les Paul shape is off-puttingly bulbous, and the SG seems like it was sawed haphazardly by a first-week woodworking student, working from a prose-only text description of what an electric guitar was.

But that's just my own aesthetic predilections talking. YMMV. In fact it's clear most folks' "mileage" DOES vary from mine, on this topic!

More importantly, one doesn't choose one's tools solely on the basis of liking the looks. They have to do the job!

They should have kept the original headstock.
I was going to say the exact same thing .

Also - 24 frets is going to kill some of the great possible tones from a 25.5" scale .

We need H - S - H 25.5 " scale set neck guitars that start out Phatt then coil cut and parallel [the middle stack to itself ] and slightly angled headstocks reversed .

This Headstock is not practical for playing tension or ' breaking '.

I had a chance to play one of the new Gibson Victory (Walnut finish) at a local music store recently.
My reaction was - it's 'decent'. The neck profile was wider than I expected. Felt more like an Ibanez.
The build quality was solid. Playability and comfort were good, if you like a little wider of a neck.
I love these odd Gibson models, so I'll grab one used at some point if the price is right.
But playing it didn't make me pull out my credit card that day.
