As some one who has built these beasts, for myself and others, I'll say failure is the reason. The stuff gets beat on the road, connections come loose,etc. Most roadies aren't up chasing down the problems ten minutes prior to sound check. Never mind electrical interference issues. I did it because it was a necessary evil back then, now the Axe is better, easier and cheaper. Going back to that would be like riding a horse to work.

Anyway, IMO there's no need at all to compare this work of art to the Axe-Fx.
There's no point.

Let's just enjoy this work of art. Housing many, many classics. And making it all switchable and accessible.

I look at this rack and it reminds me of the self realization I had about porn stars. Sure, the fantasy is great but in reality I'd just disappoint them...

Holy crap... that thing is a serious beast. A real work of art, and I have to say thank to the builders for such an amazing post breaking down it's components and construction. That is a rare treat to get to see a rack like that in that kind of detail. It's kind of like an AXE in itself.. only real, not virtual. It has SO much in it.

I've built a few "Refrigerators" in my time, but this level of work is amazingly impressive. These guys know their stuff.

As for the comments about moving it, or operating it... it was stated repeatedly that it is owned by a studio. So, I'm guessing it never moves and that the engineer knows how to work it. When an artists wants a certain sound or effect... they have a pretty decent chance of being able to create it. This beast is beautiful to me.

Can I borrow it for my "Brew House" gig this weekend? I'm going to do a sweet cover of "Frankenstein" and want to nail the tone...:mrgreen

I've used these guys on several projects and couldn't recommend them more - Mike's a great guy with a vast knowledge of an infinite number of systems.........
