If you have the money and the roadies why not?
As some one who has built these beasts, for myself and others, I'll say failure is the reason. The stuff gets beat on the road, connections come loose,etc. Most roadies aren't up chasing down the problems ten minutes prior to sound check. Never mind electrical interference issues. I did it because it was a necessary evil back then, now the Axe is better, easier and cheaper. Going back to that would be like riding a horse to work.
