I never pull the mics away. They are always as close as they can get. 818 is dead center, I’ll never move that mic from there either. 57 is inside the “where the cone meets the cap”, on the right side, so much brighter than what people “say” you should do.
These cabs have an absolute metric ton of midrange: it’s easy to sound super bloated with them. Micing brighter makes the sound inherently more scooped, and carving out that ugly low midrange.
