Yet more compliments on the FX8...

Inspired
Was at rehearsal last night and was super chuffed when our singer stopped proceedings to say how sweet my tone was. I haven't even spent anywhere near as much time with the FX8 as I'd like and know I'm only just scratching the surface with it , but he was right - it's the best my setup has sounded since we've been playing.

Even better still my GAS for effects has completely gone. Just patiently waiting to see what Fractal have up their sleeves with the impending update.

Love the fact that with the H&K Grandmeister you get best of both worlds - all tube tone plus the ability to tweak and save amp presets on-the-fly.

I run mine via 2x12 H&K cab and Redbox out to our PA - gets me that same consistent tone regardless of venue :)

Yes I think I take the GM's versatility for granted at times.

I also have the H&K 2x12 but have never liked the sound I get through the Redbox so mic the cab into our PA. Got lots of compliments on the tone at our last gig (my first with the FX8)

Only thing a little frustrating is how trebly the amp is. I know some users have swapped the speakers in the cabs which apparently can help.

Part of me is gassing for the Marshall Satriani amp, but it's much bigger and way too powerful for how I'd use it. I currently use the GM at 18w but am considering dropping to 5w so I can really push it.

Also in a pub I doubt anyone would notice the difference between a GM and a Marshall JVM!

Thanks for the tip, reading the blurb it sounds like just the ticket. How noticeable was the improvement?

It took away a lot of the fizz on the top end and made the amp sound a lot fuller and richer in the mids.

I use the TM112 cabs and it sounds amazing with them on top of milk crates.

Changing the tubes is a piece of cake

I also had another compliment...

was in a different than usual rehearsal environment... I should have brought my amps, but it was just a writing session so I just opted to use the "house" amps... which turned out to be a nightmare... Marshall AVT50... what horrible pieces of shit those amps are... anyway... took me about 15 minutes to get a useable clean tone... after that we started writing... near the end of the session the owner - a friend - came into the room... he loves looking at my UFO pedalboards and was curious to see what pedals I had sold and traded since I was last in his space...

he was shocked...

I have ALWAYS been a "purist" so to speak and to see the FX8... he didn't know what to think...

But I dialled up a few sounds and at the end he just said, "that thing is badass".

Considering this guy owns (no joke) over 500 Les Pauls, and dozens of amps, and has been less than impressed with my gear int he past - no matter how boutique - well... I was seriously surprised and happy.

Oh and my bassist replied to the guy... "uh yes it is".

ha!

Congrats on feelin the love @Davus PG

I'm running mine at 18w at the moment also. I must admit that I'm finding the amp more bass than trebly though just put that down to the TM212.

WTF! 500 LPs and dozens of amps? That's just sick and wrong... o_O Unless he's a billionaire and buying a LP is like buying a candy bar. I'm afraid to ask how many effects he has.

The worst thing about it is that 99.9% of them sit unplayed as investments.

Like underbeds and his attic, etc.

He has SEVERAL very rare ones as well.

Madness.

Not huge into effects. I have more than he does. Though I have a fair chunk. He just wants LP into Marshall.

Mad.

Plays in a cover band.

I got the picture, sad. Although I wonder how the return rate on the LPs compares to my mutual funds

Both are definitely too casino-y for my blood. :D

Saying that, I'd bet he actually saved himself a lot of financial pain by having himself invested in LPs vs pretty much anything else in 2008.

I know a guy who had 64 top end PRS Suhr and Gibson guitars in his house. Played them all through a Peavey Bandit FFS
