Yamaha DXR10 vs ???

Hi, i have an axe fx 3 and i've always used a yamaha DXR10 with it so far. I was wondering 2 things:

1) Will i have a better tone/feel if i use a more expensive frfr ? I've never heard my axe fx with another speaker, so i don't know. If so, do you have one in mind ?

2) If I keep my DXR10, would it feel better if I bought another one to make a pair? I guessed maybe more air moving or thump ?

Thank you!!

I have the DXR10s, which I use for stage monitors or small acoustic gigs, front fills on other gigs. Great speakers, especially for the money. Use the onboard DSP properly and they’ll do their best, but they are a bit “mid forward.” But for guitar, I’ve never found them lacking oomph until I get to pretty high volume, and even then they do well.

That said, I prefer my EV PXMs overall for guitar backline and monitoring. The coaxial design makes the sound feel like more of a single point source up close, and they definitely don’t lack oomph.

Hi, thank you for the answer! But like, would you say the sound/tone is different ? Also, how do you use the dsp ? I really only play in the house for fun

Yes, it's different. But that's very subjective. In my opinion, if you can't get a tone you're pleased with out of your Yamahas for just playing at home, you're going to have to try some alternatives out to see if they seem better to you. In particular, try some studio monitors, or a coaxial monitor like the PXM (or Yamaha's coaxial) and a Fender FR12. For just playing at home, I think I could be perfectly happy with the DXR10; they're bloody loud! Stereo always feels better, too.
