Wish: Make Custom Press & Hold into its own footswitching mode

I feel like the Custom Press & Hold sacrifices too much functionality from other modes.
If you use it, then those other modes cannot use their own hold features (e.g Effects mode hold = channel picker).

I feel like this functionality would work better if it was its own footswitching mode instead.

It could have options like this:
  • Preset/bank/scene/channel +/- 1.
  • Select preset/bank/scene/channel X.
  • Toggle fx block X bypass.
  • Toggle between two channels in block X.
  • Tuner. Tuner exit brings you back into Custom mode.
  • Tap tempo.
  • Hold functions: All of the above (except tap tempo because that makes no sense) + mode changes. Changing modes just gives you the press/hold functions associated to those modes and you need to use some shortcut or the mode picker to get back to Custom mode.
For example maybe you need something like this:
  1. Scene 1. Hold for Preset +1.
  2. Scene 2. Hold for Preset -1.
  3. Scene 3. Hold for "Toggle between block 1 channel A/B" (e.g rhythm vs lead Drive).
  4. Tap tempo. Hold for tuner.
This would bring a little bit of FC6/12 style programmability where you can piece together your own custom mode out of the existing features. Still simplistic in comparison, this is like the equivalent of a single FC layout without per-preset features.

Not to sound cynical, but if you need switching like this you bought the wrong product. The AM4/VP4 were not designed as extensions or competitors to the Axe/FM series.

Yet at the same time the AM4/VP4 are more compact, and easier to use. So if it's right in many ways as is, it's not too much to want them to do more?

If Fractal were to offer MIDI control to everything the footswitches can do, then I'd be fine just using MIDI to make my own setup. But as is, you can't use MIDI to control e.g footswitch modes so you could switch them with MIDI and then use the 4 onboard footswitches.

I could figure out the MIDI Sysex from AM4-Edit on how to do that but not all MIDI controllers allow Sysex commands to be sent.

There’s nothing wrong with wanting. Hope and dreams stay real while reality drags on.............. and on ..................
My friend Mick Jagger once wrote a whole song about being in that special place ;-)
