Why everybody gets a Matrix lately?

Isn't Axe alone good enough for those people really?

What does Matrix add that axe already doesn't have?

To amplify their sound. Some people prefer a preamp, poweramp and cabinet setup other D.I. They may not have adequate powered monitors, or studio monitors, and would simply prefer a more traditional amp/cabinet setup to incorporate their Axe FX into.

Furthermore, the Matrix is an incredibly well suited poweramp for the axe fx. I owned a GT800FX and a GM50 for a while and used it with a blackstar artisan 4x12. It was incredibly transparent and ensured I could use the full power of the deep editing functionality. The poweramp I had before that (rocktron velocity 300) coloured my tone far too much.

So Matrix is good for CAB users right?

If going direct, listening through stage monitors or in-ears Matrix would be useless?

Not exactly, I use the matrix and my 4x12 cab though output 2 and my FRFR signal goes to output 1 and then to the desk/monitors. So, I have the best of both worlds.

Matrix also make CFR monitors, you can power them with a Matrix amp. You don't have to use a Matrix amp through a guitar cab but you have the choice.

Check out the Matrix web site. Matrix

Well yeah, if you have powered monitors, then you don't need a poweramp. Your speaker choice is already powered as it is.

Matrix do offer powerd monitor solutions as well.

I used a GT800FX with a 4x12, and now also have a powered monitor setup while using In Ears. I've really enjoyed both setups, though I prefer the In Ear Monitor approach nowadays for complete isolation.

I think that one of the main reasons that people like Matrix gear is because they are really helpful if you are having problems. When my special lady's friend knocked Chardonnay into my 1500, I was invited down to the new factory to get it repaired (the amp, not the new factory). They have specialists who are willing to talk you through you any issues you may be having. The biggy for me is that they do not get bent out of shape if you do not like their product: Matt and Andy at Matrix appreciate one size does not fit all. I think that they would rather have you happy with someone else's product than feel lumbered with a Matrix product.

I've been using Matrix gear since before I got my AF2, I was on a Digitech GSP1101 back then, and it's been good to me.

Yes. If you are going direct into a PA and/or in-ear monitors, you have no need for amplification. Only if you are using a passive guitar cab or passive FRFR monitor is it needed.

Works extremely well with the Axe-Fx.
Gives those used to tube amps the amp like feel and tone they crave for.
Pound for pound one of the best (if not the best) amplification solution for your Axe-FX.

You don't need a power amp unless you wanted to connect the Axe-Fx II or any other kind of audio device to passive speakers (e.g. guitar cabs, passive PA-speakers ...). The Yamaha HS50M are active, which means they have a power amp already built in.

Totally agree. I found an old TubeWorks MOS Valve 1160 in one of my old racks the other day and tried it with the AXE-FX II - pretty damn close to the Matrix for sound and feel!
