Why do the 80's get such a hard time?

That's great, Luke. I need to go find my John Oates mullet with the porn star moustachioed look from the time... cracks me up now.

Easy answer...

well there was real metal and there was poser:) (LOL)bands.you can list them as you see fit.the great stuff of the 80's were Priest,Maiden,Megadeth,Metallica,Anthrax,Slayer,Dio,and a whole mess of underground metal and Neo classical instrumentalists.

back then,if you were a guy over 12yrs. and listened to poison and the likes, god help you little sissy mary.

i have to raise my glass to the younger generation players of today.i hear much promise.Damn can some of these kids play!not so much in the metal genre, much more so on the fusion progressive side of things.

Take this band for example - there is not a single thing about this song that doesn't kick ass. Video full of hot chicks? Great riff? Asskicking lead playing? Check check check.

XYZ - Face Down In The Gutter - YouTube

Wow. Other than footage of an atomic bomb explosion, I'm hard pressed to think of any 80's MTV rock cliches that got left out of that video! :lol I hope the guy playing the bartender got paid well. His enthusiasm was impressive. :mrgreen

In hindsight, it's pretty funny to think that video was released in the same month Nirvana put out Nevermind - September 1991.

I'll take 80's dudes in spandex singing about strippers and partying over kids in skinny jeans screaming about who-the-hell-can-tell any day.

I hate 80's, but make a very intriguing argument. My viewpoint has shifted slightly.

The 80's were great. I personally liked the early 90's better. 88 till 94 had some of the best albums ever produced IMO come to light, and not in just metal and rock. Country, Jazz and blues had many an amazing genre. Today there is just sooooooooo much of everything, and with the internet it's all available to everyone all the time. That changes everything and causes music to evolve more quickly.

I love the internet for it's convenience but because of it, gone are the days of real original music IMO.

This would be my point......LONG BEFORE these chicks with dicks entered the 80's music era there was; Priest's Brttish steel, Maiden's piece of mind, Dokken, Ratt, Dio, Scorps, VH....................Randy Rhoads. Vai, Timmons, Satch,.. shall I continue? Wait, what about Shrapnel records and Yngwie, Vinnie Moore, ect. Did we talk about METALLICA? These guys turned the guitar world upside down and we all try to emulate it now. The 80's ruled. Yes I happened to be in High school during this era and had a blast!

...thanks a lot guys... er... and gals

This is just one of a plethora of 'educational' videos for this era for those who make fun of the 80's. Be informed! The best guitarists EVER came out of this time frame and none of them played for Poisen.

Most people that give 80's music a hard time didn't grow up in that era and don't have any good memories to put to that music. If you look at Glam metal or Glitter rock, however you want to slot it from someone that didn't relate to it then of corse they are going to make fun of it.

Some of those 80's bands have re-invented them selves and are doing really good, Winger comes to mind. I don't see any new Bevis and butt head :lol

The hairstyles for girls in the 80s.....whoever invented them will not get into heaven.

I remember being in high school and seeing a perfectly attractive girl come to class one day with her beautiful hair now looking like a French poodle was sitting on her head. I died a little when that happened.

The 80s were not a good decade for hair.

Nostalgia is not a viable defense. :lol
