What would the new-gen even have that the current gen doesn’t?

Then having the licence is another story .
I know it won’t happen .
But the day we will have a product that got the axe tone + a licenced skeumorphic thing, it will eat everything

But it can add new customers . Because when both tone AND visual is fucking cool, that’s fucking cool 😎

Don’t know, I find it really pleasant in neural plugins . As i like the real gear, and it make me dream, when i see a fortin head that I couldn’t afford in my screen it is better than nothing .

Same in a car simulator . If you drive a Ferrari that’s cool to see a Ferrari on the screen you know . A Ferrari wheel, everything acting like the real deal … that’s the final steep.
If Cliff was able to code hundreds of amps, don’t worry, a good UI graphic designer can do hundreds of images too . That’s not something so huge. Sexy things make a difference too.
It's more than just graphics...

Anyway, you're entitled to your own opinion, I just have a different one ;)

Sure
As the tone is already there, if you ask me what can you add to a new gen product, it is it. Don’t think I am the only one to think about that as fender and line 6 have done that in their new product .

Also I didn’t see that « toy » thing . Why cant it be both a tool and well designed ? Stupid.

No need to get rude, buddy.

Rude? Where? Ahh maybe the « stupid »? Maybe I need to write « that is stupid » ?
That's no less rude, but at least it's not personal. You could have said it's a bad argument or you don't share my point of view.

But you do you, if that's who you are. Nowhere did I call you or anything you said stupid, no matter how much I disagree. Have a nice evening.

In my country the word « stupid » is very light and quite polite, don’t know the degree of that word in English/us , that is just a problem with langage, sorry for this .

But if you have the unit with you it negates the vst requirement.
I was more thinking of just the convenience of being able to use it recording DI into a DAW and then have the convenience of Edit as a VST without having to do the whole re-amping thing. And like @Peavey Herman mentioned, more 'awareness' that it is being used by/as part of the workflow within a DAW.

You dial a tone the same way, you put the knob at 4 it is like axe edit at 4, just you have a more sexy visual .

Imagine this with the all things we have in the axe..

If you select a ds1 and see and turn the knob of the ds1, it is cool 👍 don’t know. To me it is the cherry in the cake
That right there is one of the main reasons why I hate plugins. I do have a software-only setup to play through, but I had to do quite a lot of work hiding that horrible UI in Gig Performer, bringing all controls to one screen.

Sure, it may be nice to look at for some people, but it is horribly inefficient with so many unneeded clicks. Every time I needed to adjust something I had to stare at those icons on top, try to remember which one means what, go there, then look at often meaningless names of pedals, find the control (which could also be names weirdly sometimes).

And it’s such a waste of screen real estate.

So yeah you can see whether a pedal is on or off, but only when you’re on a screen that has this particular pedal. Come to think of it, it’s an achievement to create an interface only capable of showing 3 effects on a 4K screen.

For the next-generation AXE FX III and FM9 successors,
I'd like the 99% compatibility also in terms of presets, blocks types and their quantity, modifiers (both single and double), MIDI etc...

I wish they essentially will be the rackmount and floor versions of the same product,
they could even share & update the same firmware (there's obviously just the foot buttons/displays management in FM9 more).

However, due to the different form factor, I believe these differences are inevitable:
  • I/Os: rackmount has more space to accommodate more inputs and outputs, highly desirable in a rack use
  • CPU power/frequency: I assume the rackmount will have more room for more CPUs and air volume and fans for better thermal dissipation
maybe also:
  • more storage memory in the rackmount for presets/CABs

See this post for what I list the most frustrating current firmware differences: AXE FX & FM9 - 5 TOP wishes

A search in this thread didn't seem to turn up "convolution"...?

I've only become aware of the Hotone Verbera (and the like) in the last week or so and it's now "unthinkable" that Gen IV couldn't load these convolution IRs...!? :p

From the past I seem to remember it would take a lot of CPU or maybe an extra chip like for the cab IRs?
Or will one of 16 CPU cores ;) and enough memory be available to devote to this?

Just wondering if there is a chance, or if this idea has been shot down already...
"I know" FAS likes to model stuff (convolution being rather static) but since there will be NAM too... fingers crossed

And of course, it opens an opportunity to sell unique IRs for it (guessing other people will already have made the essentials, like M Nielsen).

Or, understandably, you might put it in the flagship model only...
Then the problem may become why we can only have one block...? ;)
