What have you found to be the best way to gain stage your blocks/presets?

Mmm, not really. Do you mean methods to add gain, within a preset?

Okay ...

Starting point (tips for adjusting amp gain):
AMP (block): all parameters - Axe-Fx II Wiki

In my main preset I have 4 scenes: clean > broken clean > crunch > more gain.

For less gain: I turn down the guitar's volume.
For more gain within the preset/scene: there's a Drive block, configured as a RC Booster, in each preset. For leads especially.

yek, how do you get 4 levels of gain with 4 scenes? I thought the scenes would only switch bypass and X/Y states?

Scene 1: Drive block off
Scene 2: Drive block On, set to X
Scene 3: Drive block On, set to Y.

Same can be done alternating between two Amp blocks (identical settings except for different gain) with XY states (same) within a preset.
Scene 1: Amp1 (X) on, Amp2 off
Scene 2: Amp1 off, Amp2 (X) on
Scene 3: Amp1 (Y) on, Amp2 off
Scene 4: Amp1 off, Amp2 (Y) on

Another option for various simple boost amounts is placing 2 or more vol/filter/eq blocks in series. You could do something like 2 blocks with levels at +3 and +6, which would let you select a boost of 0/3/6/9 dB per scene. Or 3 with levels +3, +6, +12 for 0/3/6/9/12/15/18/21 dB boost.

Ah, I thought so :)
