Wah question

Question: Most of the Wah effect I am getting is mainly very near the toe down point of the pedal. It does auto engage etc but 95% of the pedal travel is basically the same sound/tone. I've played around with some of the settings but not much change.

Sound very similar to what I went through. Not that I actually got it fixed 100% to my use case but what worked for me was to reduced the range of the frequencies. I noticed that the low end of the spectrum does not have a big role in the overall effect. I played a bit reducing the max-min frequencies to be more on the midrange. That way as soon as you engage you begin sweeping over frequencies that cut through. That in combination with the Log curve may get you what you need.

This is where I'm at right now (see pics in previous post).

It also sounds very much like when I hit toe down (100%) the wah shuts off as if it's at heel down (0%)

Nothing looks odd there.

I have 2 suggestions:

  1. While leaving that modifier window open, move your pedal slowly and observe yellow "ball". Does it follow the pedal movement closely?
  2. Try disabling the Compressor or putting the Wah after the Compressor. Does that help?

I had a similar situation with my recently purchased fm9.

I can’t tell where you will find this setting in axe fx 3 but…on fm9 under pedal menu there is a setting where you choose the pedal to be either expression or switch. If it’s set to switch, it behaves like your situation.

Assuming he's using an FC, they don't work that way... There are dedicated expression ports and dedicated switch ports.

On the Axe Fx itself, the built-in jacks for expression pedals do have a switch option (see page 12 in the manual).

Well those all look to be just fine

Modifier shows he's using FC Pedal 1. Maybe he's plugged into a switch port on the FC?

For the record I am using an FC-12, older model, running 1.12 software. My EV-1 is plugged into Pedal 1 on the back of the FC-12 and it is connected to my Axe III via Faslink cable.

Let us know the results of these items.

Yeah check the sweep response with the modifier graph. It should match the pedal movement quite closely (yellow dot at top right at toe down, bottom left and heel down, half way up the diagonal line with the pedal in the middle of its travel, and smooth even motion between).

Yes. It matches pedal movement closely.
