Hi

I am setting up my FM3 board.I am wondering if I could place a volume-pedal in the effects send/ return. It would free up teh external switches for
other purposes.

Any thoughts on this?. OHM of the pedal.

I have these:

BOSS FV 500
Ernie BAll
Ernie ball with built-in Skrydstrup buffer

Kind regards

Make sure you understand how Fx loops work on the unit. Don't confuse Send/Return blocks for an Fx loop.

You would use Output 2 and Input 2.

I don't see why reason why your idea wouldn't work. Just make sure to adjust for unity gain.

Sure, that would work. You'd need to add the Out2->In2 blocks in every patch at the point you want your volume pedal. Also, if you want to make sure you're preserving the stereo signal, you'll need a stereo volume pedal, like the Ernie Ball VP Stereo, plus two sets of dual 1/4" cables (Hosa makes a great model available in lots of lengths). But if you're just running mono or just in mono up until the point of your volume pedal then a regular old pedal with regular old patch cables will work.
