Using synth sounds on looper

I love the excellent sounds of presets on the fm9, I want to use the looper to loop synth fm9 preset sounds while i play lead over it. when i switch from the looper to my lead preset the synth goes away and it reverts to the lead preset??
Any way I can keep the one preset playing on the loop and switch to lead?

Do you have the looper block in both presets?
