Using Axe-Fx to send MIDI CC

I have a piece of outboard gear with a 7pin midi connection. I want to use the axefx to send midi control signals to it, but the MIDI out is only a 5 pin jack.

If i use a 7-pin to 5-pin cable (rocktron) would that work?

A quick google and this is part of the product description

This Rocktron cable was created specifically to transfer MIDI commands between your MIDI pedals (with a 7-pin MIDI out jack) and any MIDI controllable rack gear. This MIDI cable gives you 30' of freedom. Rocktron MIDI cable comes with an additional plug for an AC adapter on the 5-pin end.

Features
  • Transfers MIDI commands from your MIDI footcontroller (with 7-Pin MIDI Out Jack) to any MIDI controllable gear
  • Transfers commands from your MIDI footcontroller to any device with MIDI input

Looks like you are good to go !

Almost certainly a standard 5 pin cable will work. You can plug it into a 7 pin jack.

What is the external gear?

It's good to understand what the gear does with the extra ports.
