Using Axe-FX as External Effects for DAW - Routing Question

I run my Axe-FX II - Mk I via USB directly to my Mac for recording guitar.
I use a Focusrite interface as my soundcard for playback as well as recording audio via mic.

I would like to use some of the effects in the Axe for some of my tracks but I have never done this before.

Can I do this via USB and still use my Focusrite as my playback source?

What do I need to do to accomplish this?

Appreciate any help.

Audio/midi settings in OSX
Build aggregate device.
That is what you then select as the new audio device in your DAW. It will give you an additional 2 in/4 out from the Axe.

Then in your DAW build the external plug by selecting the appropriate I/o for the Axe.

Put the Axe into audio from USB, don't forget to ping for round-trip latency.

Put the external track that has your DI going to... Input will have to be on Focusrite since Axe is in USB audio mode.

Of all the years I've used the Axe back to when I started at a Ultra v4 this is the best setup I've had for tracking, reamping, slaving out to amps etc...

I too use an aggregate device setup, much more stable and lower latency than setting my in and out interfaces to separate devices in my DAW.
