You should always power up your power amps/speakers LAST. Even if it's a mixer and PA speakers, mixer first and then the speakers. This protects the speakers from any electrostatic discharges which make the popping noises.
I can see why people might be confused. I just saw a full page Axe Fx II ad in the new Guitar World advertising 4x4 USB as a feature. Guess it went to print before Fractal realized it couldn't be done at this time. It would be nice to have, but not a deal breaker since you can create an aggregate device on a Mac.
