Ultra - suddenly sounds very muddy

Hi, worked out it was actually my guitar - pickup selector switch was dead/dying. It was randomly going wrong.
When I tried another guitar I think I had already convinced myself I'd blown up my Axe.

Still not heard about the phantom power question.
