Tried using 2 amps

I've held off on using 2 amps, because I knew I'd be pushing up on the limits of my standard. But now I've gone there and there is no turning back - I'll either have to work with leaner patches or get an ultra. I build a patch around the Trainwreck & ODS amp. The trainwreck is clear and sizzley, and the ODS provides the beef. It sounds so much fuller than any of the single amp chains I've used. Gone is the slightly choked response I sometimes feel, and I've gained some of the stringyness I've been after. This really opens up a whole new realm of possibilities. So many amp combos to try, and I haven played around with having one amp more driven and one more clean.

Two amps or an amp and a drive in parallel can sound great. Each can contribute a part to the sound that the other can't, creating a completely new sound different from either of the two by themselves. I do it all the time.

It's also easy to muddy up the sound if you combine certain models and settings. You need to experiment and use your ears. Sometimes the sound is 90% one amp and 10% from a second amp, but it's that second amp puts the sound over the top.

So what do you want to know exactly ? How to make dual amp presets using the less CPU possible ? Well as most blocs are stereo (including the dual cab bloc) you can use one modulation bloc for the two amps (if of course you don't need separate modulations for each amp).

Just using the stereo cab bloc will make you save some good CPU.

Do you also use Drive bloc(s) ?

I currently use 2 low rez cabs (stereo) to get the speaker sounds I like, so I can't really cut back there. I use reverb & delay after amp (& before cabs) in stereo. I do use a drive block before the amp.

In my single amp patches, I use a bunch of effects before the amp: vibe, rotary, chorus & octave down. These are all defeated by default, and I switch them in (only one at a time) for variety. I think if I add in all of these blocks I will exceed the CPU limits.

I know there are threads completely devoted to this, but do we have a WIKI on blending these amps together? Tips and tricks and all that shite?

I'm feeling my sound is somewhere between Plexi/Wreck, 800, and Fender.

Oh hell, I'll just experiment. I gots the FRATOMIC!

One amp panned hard left....one amp panned hard right.....one side wet.......one side dry............some stereo enhancer and wala.......insane tones from heaven. I feel ya on the CPU usage I have had to delete some patches because of it......but as you said......once you go two amps at once.....no turning back....

Each block eats CPU, no matter if it's in stanby...

I've got an Ultra and got the bug for running two amps, but .. just to help save you some money .. I realized in the end that I could really achieve all the tonal variation I could ever really require with one amp going into a cab that's got two diff cab settings.

I've been doing that for some time. There's definitely some things that combining 2 amps does, which 2 speakers cant achieve, for my money anyway.
