Tim Pierce Bad Cat Tone

The tone is very dark, on the amp I had to turn down the treble and turn up the high cut, as well as roll down my tone knob to about half. I used the dyna cabs 1960TV cab with a 57 and 121, IIRC that's what he uses on his cabs, and I messed with the mic placement a bit to get it even darker. Transformer mic preamp bc imo that's the closest to the Neve thing (he's running into BAE 1073s).

Here is a clip of that Kansas riff. I really don't enjoy playing without a compressor up front, haha. Also I'm playing an HSS strat with a Suhr SSV in the bridge, not a Les Paul, but that's a topic for another day :grimacing:

yeah with an LP you probably won't have to be as drastic with the eq

I found the bad cat impedance curve to be icepick like (just like the earlier generation bad cat amps). I prefer the matchless impedance curve by far.

Any recommendations on how to dial in this tone?

Looks like he is running through channel 1 of a Bad Cat Hot Cat amp and 4x12 Marshall cab with "old" speakers.

I loved that tone on the new guitar...has me thinking about getting one. I haven't had a LP for quite a few years now, and I've been missing it.
Coincidently, I've been messing around with the Hot Cat as a possible sound for live use.
