The perception of bad tone.

So really, as a side note, you like the tones you like not because other tones are bad tones, you just psychologically prefer them. Try branching out and expanding your palette of tones. It will only increase the pleasantries of life for you. :)

ive tried to explain that to people, both offline and on this forum and i always get shrugged off. agree 100% though
 
The effect also applies to equalization (independent of "quality" of tone). For example, if I switch from playing a Friedman HBE patch through a Marshall 4x12 IR to a Mark IV patch through a Mesa 4x12 IR, the tone suddenly sounds very thin. However, after playing a few minutes, the Mesa tone sounds just fine (and honestly would fit much better as-is in a mix context).
