Testing the EHX 9MM Poweramp with the Axe Fx

Just to add my 2 cents - I've also been struggling with getting the attack immediacy in the power amp + cab setting (I'm using a Hypex NC252MP Class D amp, which was a dramatic improvement over the SD Powerstage 170 and the Matrix GT1000FX in my case). Compared to the real amp the initial attack has less definition and seems to be less pronounced in the higher mids with an excessive amount of bass + lower mids which off course can be cut at the cost of some liveliness.

I don't need that with my Mesa or Diezel Cab,
but they both sound rich in treble, so I paid attention to that.

How and where do you create your presets?
Perhaps they are already set too bass/mid-heavy due to the room acoustics or the speakers used.

I am just a bedroom player but I can play at decent volumes too. My cab has V30s in it.

Cliff has also described the improvement of the attack via a Class A, Class H or tube amp somewhere in this forum,
but this should not be a problem with either the Fryette LX II or the return input of the Mesa JP2C,
but with the EHX 5mm.

I try to set my presets for a higher volume and then adjust them dynamically for lower volumes via the Performance Pages by ear and to my liking.
I usually play at bedroom via the studio monitors (and not via amp + cab) and at moderate volumes via the Fryette Power Station, which sounds similar to the LX II but has less power and stays at home.
In my presets, however, this is easy to do with volume, gain and EQ settings on the Axe FX via the Performance Pages.

But I also have to adjust all the presets I buy (including those from Stefano or Thibault, which are both very good) initially for my guitars/room/boxes/volume/... and put my EQs and settings in there.

If they work for me and sound good in my environment,
the match between bedroom level and gig level is no longer so complex and
I'm currently working on an additional block for IEMs.

A trick I have been using lately is put an GEQ on the cab output, adjust the sound for foh and use the eq to make it right in the cabs.
