Suggestions for getting effect in song ...

I am doing I Just Want To Celebrate in a band, and the break part has what seems to be an overloaded echo unit in the background. I would like to do that on my guitar, anybody already do something like this?

I am not an effects guy at all, unless it is wah or chorus based. No clue about echos or delays. Thanks much!
 
I don't know the song you mentioned. It might help your request to post a short clip of the part of the song you're talking about. Unless they used 10 Eventide units in series to do it, I'm sure the Axe2 can do it. :)
 
it could be a delay... an old analog one
the feedback is set quite high so that the wet signal degrades
the wet / dry may also be 100% wet at that point

a digital delay won't do this effect unless it has analog style modelling
I don't know if the axe delay models can do this - never tried
however I do have a Waves plug-in called H-Delay [which has the best analog delay characteristics I'd ever heard in a plug-in] and I reckon this could make a sound like that [or very close]

not sure if the band ever recreated this effect live, cos it sounds like studio goofing around to my ears
I found a few live versions of the song and none of them had that sound included...

EDIT: btw... the song is as cool as ya like... very nice...
