Studio Desks

It's funny, my desk is the oldest piece of my studio gear. I've had the same desk now for over 20 yrs. It's a total macguyver DIY type desk put together by odds and ends i got free from this friend I had who worked for a commercial office furnture warehouse. Solid material heavy as hell but totally functional/utilitarian. it's not the prettiest thing and have wanted to upgrade so many times but it's just become effeicient though form factor not ideal. its technically a corner desk. I like it has massive surface for all my desktop peripherals/midi keyboard etc but i really want to update my desk this year or next and have a proper midi keyboard slide out. I'd love love love one of those StudioDesk ones like @GlennO has. I've eyed those for years but my goodness the price of those! mind you if its your centerpiece for your space and don't blink an eye spending a few grand on a guitar why not the desk too?....last year I was also looking at doing a DIY with two sit/stand desks. lower for a large midi keyboard and build a tiered shelf for monitors. I may do that which i figure dwould cost me no more than $500-700 vs 2-3k for one of those fancy StudioDesk models (sexy as hell)

I'm very much liking these vibe-y setups. I'm going to end up using them as inspiration for whenever I decide to make more changes. It's not going to be cheap (because I want to change the floor), but....I'm excited.

Thanks for all the input guys, keep it coming!
My needs have changed over the years. A decade or so ago I had a big Omnirax desk with about 40 rack spaces, a lunchbox, monitor controller, 2 sets of studio monitors, artist mix daw controller, and 88 key midi controller in the underdesk tray. When I moved I sold the desk and half the gear.
In the years since I've started putting a new studio together, and have been using a repurposed office desk. I've also ditched almost all my outboard gear, and plan on adding the SSL U series of controllers to an already cramped desk.
I'm strongly considering a motorized sit/stand desk, I'm 6'4" with a bad back, I play guitar standing up, keys sitting down, need a keyboard tray for the midi controller, built-in monitor stands of some sort, and the ability to fit my dual monitor setup along with everything seen here, just swap the faderport for the whole SSL U series. 1000004881.jpg1000004882.jpg1000004884.jpg
My current uncomfortable setup.

So anyone got a standing desk they like?
Don't really have a budget set for this. I figure it costs what it costs, and likely will be a 20+ year investment in my physical health as age, diabetic neuropathy, and a bad back have taken their toll on me physically, and I can stay in one position just long enough to get flowing, before discomfort makes me take a step away.
I'm considering something like this maybe?

I don't. I used to have an Ikea sit/stand desk that was just a normal desk with no real studio features. I'm still using the super-cheap desktop with other legs for something else, but the motors died within a few years. I wouldn't really recommend them.

One thing you might consider is a "normal" standing desk and attaching racks, speaker stands, etc. that just sit on the desktop. It might wind up with something that you like better than what's available. Just something worth considering.

With advice from an extremely helpful moderator here, iaresee, I purchased an uplift Desk V2 -Amazing. Being a guitar player, being able to stand or sit is the best thing I have done in my little home "Don't say" studio. Never a bit of trouble be three years in Junes. Amazing.
My back and whole body thank me....................I alternate between standing and sitting since it takes like 3 seconds with 4 memory slots or just up/down arrows for heights I like. I cannot imagine ever having a stationary desk ever again

IMG_4479.jpegIMG_4530.jpegIMG_7479.jpegI built this 8 years ago - was not that hard, just copied the good ideas form desks that "almost" fit my needs. Originally didn't have the riser in the back for monitor and speakers - added it on year or two later. The sliding keyboard gets entirely out of the way - slides on 4 heavy duty drawer slides available at Lowes etc. Just rout out the a "track" to keep tolerances low. The issue to design is desk top height - mine ended up at 34". Bottom of Keyboard sliding tray is 25 1/2" from floor.IMG_1694.jpeg

I am using an Ikea table and, as a speaker stand, a piece of deck planking with 5 short table legs supporting it. Seems to get the job done....

That's what I need; a desk where the keyboard can slide back out of the way, with rack rails for the Axe-Fx.

I have a lift desk from Office Depot. It works ok for what I wanted, which was to be able to use it seated or standing during rehearsals. I had to beef up some parts, as the stuff they make desks out of isn’t as strong as it needs to be. But it’s working for me now.

Well here's my humble little happy place....

I made the side-chair rack last week; not playing out much anymore, so this just made sense.
FC-12 switcher at my feet, all the time.
Effects pdls in the bottom space, until needed.
Nr-field spkrs on the desk either side of the desk monitor; headphones on the hanger on the side of the rack.
A second graphics monitor is on top of the rack, for mixer or secondary visuals.
Three analog amps hanging out in the background. Midi keybd behind me, for keys or thumpa-thumpa tracks.
Several gtrs hanging behind me, and a couple of floor stands for quick access to the guitar I'm actively using.
This works great for me, but would not be handy at all, if I were still carting my gear all over the valley several times a week. It's a great hobby, home player, recording space, with easy access.
