Strap Suggestions for Incoming New Guitar

I tried a couple of the Walker & Williams from Amazon and they didn't last very long. Fraying on the edges, the finish peels off randomly and is pretty messy. I would not recommend them.

I ordered that G-25 Royal Blue strap on Amazon. It arrived and was definitely not leather. There were a lot of noxious fumes coming off of it. I returned it immediately. I suppose it could've been a counterfeit but it was at the same price point on these links and seemed legit on arrival vis-a-vis the packaging. That is the vibe I'm looking for. Maybe I should try again and order direct. Can you confirm they use genuine leather?
Likely the tanning chemicals. Let me check their homepage again for genuine leather. I don't know why they'd misrepresent themselves, but it could be they use a mix of leather/vinyl. Be right back.

Just contacted the W&W website direct. There might have been some tanning chemical off-gassing if the strap was brand-new.

Anyway, their website says genuine leather, but I've politely asked if that is the case and why might there be noxious fumes...?

EDIT: Seems W&W uses a thin glove leather on some of their products, with foam padding interior. The major complaint is that the straps wear out quickly and the glove leather "flakes" in tiny pieces. It may be necessary to be more selective and not choose a certain type of W&W strap.

That being said, this one below was recently ordered. Reviews are 4 stars plus. Any smells were described like new shoes or a new car scent...

I can't stop using the Clip-Lock straps DiMarzio do, but I imagine there are some more traditional styles of strap that are more comfortable. DiMarzio do offer a few leather options for the Clip-Lock straps now.

Edit: Apparently not lol

There were a few reviews from amazon that describe what you say...Walker & Williams themselves appreciated my contacting them and said they were addressing the flaking leather issues as well as the early fraying...and they did admit that some of their product was less than desirable standard...

The way to avoid that and receive a quality product is to order from the homepage directly...that way you won't receive something that's sat in a warehouse for several years wrapped up off-gassing. Their bourbon GB-101 series has both the look and feel of fine leather because it is real leather...just not a product whose tanning chemicals would stain your furniture or guitar. If I can remember this post two years from now, I'll report back how well my order has stood up in two years time.

I think one forum member who had order a blue G-25 series needed return his because of the chemical smell and reports of leather flaking within 2 years time. Apparently, some designs have bigger issues than more recently made product.

For the Levys TriGlides, two questions: (1) are they comfortable with a heavy guitar like a Les Paul, (2) do you go with 2" or 3"? Thanks!

This has been my default strap for quite a while. Levy's Tri-Glide, 3" width, and definitely comfortable with a heavy guitar.

When I want something a little fancier, I like Anthology, too. They adjust with the typical position holes, so in my use, that limits them to similar guitars. But, they're really nice and very comfortable.

Been using a 3" wide strap almost as long as I've been playing, 2" just doesn't feel right anymore. 2.5" is OK and I've got a couple of 4" that are just a little too wide. But the 3" width helps distribute the weight across the shoulder better for me.

Those Anthology straps seem to be priced very competitively. I may have to order one.

I contacted Anthology and received what I felt was a somewhat rude answer, under the guise of being helpful. They said I should go to website and look at the straps for how they adjust as you can see it there. Well I had done that prior to asking them and there aren't any pictures on the site that clearly show how they adjust. I just wish Levy's had the tri glide in brown in stock. They have black, but I am not sure that would look good with my Iced Tea burst.
