Right, this is the relative mix - but again, I'm not altering or adjusting any levels.

Same IR, same level in two slots.

I'm pretty confident it's the pan law as mentioned in the previous few replies.

The normalization part of the relative mix scheme is likely why it gets louder.

If the block muted IR 2 without adjusting the IR 1 level, a nonzero pan law alone would give a quieter end result.
