A few years back I had a customer request a neck through mini Explorer style. It needed to be under 8 lbs. because of a severe back injury he had.
So I found some nice Spalted Maple that was structurally stable & lightweight.
I decided not to go 100% neck through & instead go deep tenon set neck. It's basically a hybrid upgrade to a neck through.
Not to mention, the end grain of the neck wood didn't look nearly as awesome as the but end of the Explorer body.
