Sold my Blue Mix-Fi's - Whats the next best thing?

MackieFX

I sold these because I dont need a built in amp - and a lot of the 'industry standard' cans are half the price or less.

Whats the next best flattest response cans for use with the Axe?

Cheers

Both Beyerdynamics DT770 and the Sennheiser HD600 get a lot use across the modellers crowd. The HD600 having an open back gives them a more open sound / less ‘tightness’. A number of my contacts also use the DT770 for mixing live performances.

Two great starting points at reasonable prices.

EDIT: I use the HD600s and have for years. Quite happy with them after learning their flavour and how tones translate.

My favorite cans ever are the AKG K712 Pro's! The main reason is they just disappear on my head!! Can wear them for hours on end with zero discomfort!!! They sound really good with whatever I throw at them! Are they the flattest cans out there, probably not, but I think they give me a good representation of what gets sent out to the monitors when I have compared. I have some Beyerdynamics DT990 Pros that I really like as well, and the sound in them is a bit tighter IMO, bit more bass response as well, just not even close to as comfortable (although the sheepskin aftermarket ear cups have made them a lot more comfortable). My IEM's (Westone UM Pro 50's) I just picked up in Dec '21 and they are really good, but just not the same as a set of good cans ;~)) I have not yet played with any of the EQ settings for any of these, but intend on doing so in the near future! Here is a link I got in another thread of this forum that has hundreds of headphone EQ settings to help get the most out of them: https://github.com/jaakkopasanen/AutoEq. Deal there is, whatever you decide to go with for your new cans, you may want to find your model in that git hub, and adjust the settings as you find them there!

I ditched my Mix-Fis when the earpads started to disintegrate. Now have Beyerdynamic DT-1990 Pros and absolutely love them.

FutureSonics MG6HX IEM’s for me — super-duper flat, “DC to light” frequency response, über-comfortable and low fatigue.

What sounds good on DT770 pro's translates very well and sounds good on other speakers annd systems as well.

On paper the DT770 pro's dont look like the best thing, but they certainly are really great even with the extra high end, it just helps you dial in great guitar tones in simple words if you ask me. They just work.

I tried and own many. For me the most balanced and neutral are the open Ollo S4X. My mixes translate from those cans to my Adam S3V.

My only concern with the DT770s is people say they're too bright. Maybe the 700X is the go-to?

Tbh I dont really know if that's just a bunch of picky audiophiles..

not tried the 700x , so cannot comment.

Yes it is possible that you can find 770pro's bright.

These are not tending as much towards flat like some other headphones, however as i said tones dialled on these headphones some how translate very well on other stuff which is why you see alot of praise for these.

They are great to track/ making guitar tones, eqing your presets etc.

Shure SRH1540's if you want great, flat closed backs. They are relatively low impedance though at 46 ohms. Only way you'll get a flatter response is going with the Sennheiser HD 650 open backs.
