So I have been listening to Slayer again lately and I wanted to try to replicate their tone on the AxeFX. I know that Kerry King uses a modified JCM800 and I ended up using the JCM900 model because it sounded closer to his tone. He also uses a Boss 10-band EQ and I found his EQ settings online, so I just copied those. He also uses the EQ unit as a boost of around 4dB. I had to add a parametric EQ behind the graphic EQ because the AxeFX graphic is nine-band not ten-band.
The cab I used is a set of custom impulses made in Acustica Nebula, it's a dynamic impulse, whereas the normal ones you hear are static. I dunno, to me it sounds a lot more like playing through a real cab. You can download my impulses for Nebula here: http://simon-sezz.blogspot.com/
But you need Nebula to use them so it's pretty much just for recording purposes.
So here's the sound clip: http://home.comcast.net/~sbingier/slayer.mp3
And the patch is attached. If you can improve on it then please post your results.
