Setting up an RJM Mastermind GT to control an Axe-Fx 3 Mark 2

Hello fellow RJM Mastermind GT and Axe-Fx 3 users! I'm getting my Mastermind GT/22 up and running with an Axe-Fx 3 Mark 2 (after using it with an Axe-Fx 2 XL for a few years). I'll post any questions I have here. First up...

Supposedly the Mastermind GT can access all 1024 presets on the Mark 2, but only 768 presets can be stored on the Mastermind GT. Since the Mark 2 has been out since September of 2020, I assume this is a hardware limitation of the Mastermind GT and not something RJM can fix with a firmware upgrade. Can anyone confirm this?

That's a bummer. Thanks for all of your hard work on the wiki, yek!

As I've begun to program buttons in the MMGTEditor, I've noticed it has pre-defined CC Numbers for the Axe-Fx 3. Can these be re-defined?

With the Axe-Fx III, you don't assign CC numbers. There's no need. All MIDI traffic occurs through sysex. So keep them at default (NONE). Only exception: External Controllers. If you use these, you need to assign a CC on the Axe-Fx, and use the same on the GT.

Is there a way to set the Mastermind GT where if I rename a preset on the Axe-Fx 3 it will automatically update the name on the Mastermind GT?

No. But if you look at my layout, there's a page with utility buttons on it and one of those buttons fetches the current preset name from the AFIII for the current preset in the MM GT.

Yes, that’s the Sync Names function. It doesn’t work real-time.

"Get Preset Names" allows for dumping names of a specific preset range from the Axe-Fx (define the Start Preset, End Preset, and press Start).

I knew about that method, have used it, and it's mentioned in the Mastermind GT manual on pages 11 and 19.

I didn't see a "Sync Names" function as @yek mentioned.

In the layout @iaresee provided, on his Utilities page there is a button named "Update Preset". It uses the button type called "Upd Prst Name" which does what I'm looking for (syncs just the name of the current preset on the Axe-Fx to the Mastermind GT). Thank you!

Yes, that's the one.

I like your labels across the top, @yek. I've been planning to do the same with my Brother P-touch labeler.

Are the "Pg 1", "Pg 2", "-", "+", "Last", and "All Scenes" along the bottom all Hold functions?

This layout is the result of years of tinkering, and links to my "kitchen sink" preset.
Now that I've got my GT22 dialed in I rarely change it. I'm about to make a few pages for working with Abelton Live but the Axe-Fx III stuff has been solid for a long time now.

When using the Scenes Menu button type on the Mastermind GT, once I select a scene it leaves the Scenes Menu, returning to the page I was on. I'd like to stay on a scenes page until I manually navigate away from it. How can this be done? Do I have to set a button to load a manually built scenes page to get around this?

Also, it'd be nice if I could get the main display of the Mastermind GT to show both the preset and scene name currently loaded.
