AFIII Satriani triubute and some love for Stu Hamm

My new band Satchsquatch is a Satriani tribute group, which gives me the perfect excuse to break out the Kubicki Ex-Factor I've owned since I special ordered it in 1988. About the same time, I saw Stu live with Satriani on the Flying in a Blue Dream tour, and was completely blown away by his skill.

So now I'm working on a 2 min "stu hamm" bass solo. Still needs more metronome work, because it's smooth up to about 130 bpm, but am getting sloppy with the sextuplet taps/slaps at the 140 and 150 rates in this run-through.

(Gee, do you think the compressor working hard enough?)

Also included - 2 minutes clipped from a rehearsal last week. After about 2 months this group is really coming together. The montage features clips from
Satch Boogie, Summer Song, Crush of Love, Circles, Ice 9, Shapeshifting, Surfing with the Alien, and Flying in a Blue Dream.

I'm getting through this with a single preset a dirty and clean scenes (dirty example: Summer song / clean example: Ice9). My FC6 Layout features FX on/off for auto-wah, octave, chorus and "tap boost," which is just an eq that boosts highs/mids and cuts lows. and selecrtion buttons for the scenes, so everything I need is under my foot.

Nice Job ~!

I saw that tour as well ..., front row center in G.R. MI ! I was there to see Satch ..., but Stu stole the show w/ his bass solo ! Before that I'd never seen anyone make a bass so polyphonic ! The way he wove the Charlie Brown Theme and Foggy Mountain Breakdown into his solo was magical !

Thanks, RD. It's a lot of fun leaning the new techniques. Can't say I've had to tap a note in 30 years until trying to tackle this piece.

This is awesome! What's the full setlist? Any chance you can share the preset? I have a couple of Satch'ish presets of my own and I'd love to compare.

I've worshiped at the alter of Satriani since I started playing in the late 80s and spent pretty much the entire 90s learning and mastering everything from SWtA through Crystal Planet. Unfortunately, I was officially an adult when EoC came out so I never had the time to tackle that one. All of those songs are still fun to play 20+ years later.

Thank you! Crystal Planet is a favorite and we hope to add it soon. As far as our set goes, the only ones that didn't make the 2 min compilation that we cover so far are Blue Foot Groovy and Always with Me Always with You. This just started as something fun to do while we looked for a singer, but hopefully we pull a few gigs with it. We think a 45-55 min opening set would be about all most audiences would tolerate out of a purely instrumental act, so we're hoping to partner with more mainstream bands that travel through our area.
