Request for Pedal Block

Hey everyone,

I wanted to suggest a feature that I think would be super useful for a lot of us using external pedals with our rigs.

Basically, I’m looking for a new block type that functions like a simplified external loop — similar to the Send/Return setup, but as a single block in the layout. The idea is that this block would send the signal out to an external pedal (through one of the outputs), and then receive the return signal — all within one block.

The key difference from the standard Send/Return setup is that this would be just one block, which could be easily engaged or bypassed via footswitch (like any other effect block). That way, we could toggle external pedals on/off from the FM9 itself without having to set up separate send/return blocks or use complex routing.

It would be a much cleaner and more intuitive way to integrate outboard pedals into the signal chain, especially for live use, Also to mention might even consume lesser dsp since one block involved. Maybe even have level knob to adjust output from the this external pedal going back into signal chain.

In my case, I’d love to use this for an external looper or a drive pedal, but ideally this block would work with any type of external effect. It would make the whole process way more streamlined and flexible, whether someone’s using modulation, delays, fuzz, or loopers outside the unit.

Would love to see something like this added in a future update. Appreciate all the incredible work you guys do!

Thanks

Hmmm.. the pedal out jacks were not originally designed to pass audio....so this may not be possible to do on existing hardware...others can chime in. Interesting idea though.

That’s the way it was in earlier generations of Fractal products. There was an effects loop block. But this was too restrictive because you could only use the extra I/O ports for effects loops. Users (including me) requested that the loop block be split up into separate input and output blocks. This arrangement can do everything the old effects loop block could do, and more — it allows you to place separate entry and exit points anywhere on the grid.

On top of what Rex said, you can already bypass a Input/Output loop (Send/Return is not a loop) with a single block.

See the Inserting External Gear section of the manual.
