How do you record a guitar with ax fx II thru usb without pro tools wanting to use the ax as a sound interface?

Pro Tools should use the Axe II as an audio interface. USB inputs 1 and 2 are the processed Left and Right outputs from the grid and USB inputs 3 and 4 are the dry left and right input signals before processing. USB outputs 1 and 2 are the left and right return monitoring feeds sent back to the Axe II.

If you want to use the Axe's USB inputs and outputs along with another audio interface, you'll need to create an aggregate audio device. Mac OS supports this natively, but Windows requires using a driver like ASIO4ALL to combine inputs and outputs of multiple devices. The layered drivers will add a tiny bit of latency to the USB stream.
